Objective: Analyzing the most frequent reasons for telephone demand in the heart failure nurse's consultation and to evaluate the response resolution capacity after the call.

Method: Descriptive, retrospective study of all telephone calls recorded between June 2020 and April 2021 in a specific nursing consultation for heart failure care. The main sociodemographic and clinical variables, reason for calling and action carried out by the nurse were extracted from the electronic medical records.

Introduction: Cardioembolic stroke, associated to nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), accounts for approximately one in every four strokes. Cardioembolic stroke has a bad prognosis and is associated with a significant rate of recurrence.

Areas Covered: This article reviews current pharmacotherapeutic options for prevention of stroke in NVAF, paying special attention to their use in particular clinical settings (e.

Aims: A Markov model was adapted to assess the real-world cost-effectiveness of rivaroxaban, dabigatran and apixaban. Each of these non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants was compared with vitamin K antagonist for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Spain.

Methods: All inputs were derived from real-world studies: baseline patient characteristics, clinical event rates, as well as persistence rates for the vitamin K antagonist treatment option.

Background: In atrial fibrillation (AF) patients on vitamin K antagonists, a progressive deterioration of renal function is common but there is limited evidence with long-term use of rivaroxaban. Herein, we investigated the change in renal function in AF patients after 2 years of rivaroxaban treatment.

Methods: The EMIR registry is an observational and multicentre study including AF patients treated with rivaroxaban for at least 6 months prior to inclusion.

Article Synopsis
  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) has become more common, increasing the risk of strokes, but recent studies indicate that the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) may be reducing stroke rates related to AF in Spain.
  • The study used data from the Spanish Ministry of Health to analyze the relationship between DOAC use and AF-related ischemic strokes in patients aged 65 and older, using statistical models for analysis.
  • Results showed that before DOACs were widely used, the incidence of AF-related strokes rose, but after their introduction, rates stabilized or slightly decreased, indicating that higher DOAC uptake may positively impact health outcomes for AF patients.

Background: The TIMI-AF score predicts poor outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and guides selection of anticoagulant therapy by identifying clinical benefit of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) or vitamin K antagonists (VKA).

Hypothesis: Our objective was to determine the ability to predict cardiovascular events according to the TIMI-AF score in a real-world population.

Methods: Retrospective observational study of VKA-naïve patients with AF was seen at a cardiology outpatient clinic in Spain between November 2012 and August 2014.

Aim: To evaluate medication persistence and outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation after 2 years of treatment with rivaroxaban in routine practice.

Methods: Retrospective study of atrial fibrillation patients in whom rivaroxaban was prescribed during the first quarter of 2014 in the healthcare area of Costa del Sol (Málaga).

Results: A total of 111 patients (mean age 74.

Background And Objective: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) require dose adjustment according to estimated clearance creatinine (eClCr) using the Cockcroft-Gault (CG) equation. There are discrepancies with the equations that estimate glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). We analyse how the use of the CKD-EPI and MDRD-4 IDMS equations affect the recommended dosage for ACODs.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Alejandro-Isidoro Perez Cabeza"

  • - Alejandro-Isidoro Perez Cabeza's research primarily focuses on cardiovascular health, particularly in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure, exploring the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy and nursing consultations in managing these conditions.
  • - Recent findings highlight the impact of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) on renal function and their cost-effectiveness compared to traditional vitamin K antagonists, suggesting an improved management strategy for stroke prevention in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients.
  • - Additionally, his work includes a significant analysis of the epidemiology of atrial fibrillation-related ischemic strokes in Spain, revealing a correlation between the increased uptake of direct oral anticoagulants and a decline in stroke rates, which could inform future healthcare policies.
