Health systems have committed their path to universal health coverage using health planning to accomplish their goals of efficiency, equity and sustainability. Chile, a high-income country with a public-private mix health system, has made significant progress through several successive health policies implemented in the last 20 years which have been consistent with this approach. Article Synopsis
  • Before tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) were introduced, patients with Philadelphia-positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Ph+ALL) had poor outcomes; the combination of TKIs with intense chemotherapy has significantly improved these results.
  • A study conducted on 35 patients at a public hospital in Santiago, Chile, between 2010 and 2019 showed a 97% complete response rate, and 61% had no measurable residual disease (MRD) during follow-up.
  • While the overall survival and event-free survival rates at three years were 52% and 34% respectively, achieving MRD negativity before three months did not significantly improve these outcomes, suggesting the combined treatment is an effective option for Ph+

Technological advancement provides an unprecedented amount of high-frequency data of human dynamic processes. In this paper, we introduce an approach for characterizing qualitative between and within-subject variability from quantitative changes in the multi-subject time-series data. We present the statistical model and examine the strengths and limitations of the approach in potential applications using Monte Carlo simulations.

Article Synopsis
  • - Bisphenol A (BPA) is a common endocrine-disrupting chemical found in over 92% of humans, known to affect fetal brain development by altering gene expression in key brain regions.
  • - This study focused on the impact of BPA exposure during pregnancy on gene expression in specific brain areas of mice, discovering 259 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) linked to various neurodevelopmental and behavioral processes.
  • - Notably, some of these DEGs are associated with autism spectrum disorders, and key regulators were identified, including huntingtin and estrogen receptors, suggesting significant implications for understanding BPA's effects on brain function.
