Objectives: There are limited data on how neighborhood-level risk factors affect the likelihood of having prenatal diagnosis. Neighborhood social vulnerability can be quantified and ranked using the social vulnerability index (SVI), a tool that measures the cumulative effect of external stressors in the local environment that may affect health outcomes. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between SVI and prenatal diagnosis among pregnant patients who received genetic counseling.

Over the last decades, the abandonment of traditional dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, represents an important threat for human health and environmental safeguard. The DELICIOUS project aims to promote healthy lifestyles among children and adolescents by implementing activities and tools to increase the adherence to the Mediterranean Diet with an attention to the environmental impacts of the diet. This study protocol describes the DELICIOUS project as a single-arm, uncontrolled behavioural intervention providing formal and non-formal education activities, development of new snacks and recipe reformulation, web/mobile app development, and physical activities to school children and adolescents in five European countries.

Background: The Environmental Justice Index is a tool released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that quantifies and ranks the environmental burden and social vulnerability of each census tract. Racial and ethnic disparities in adverse pregnancy outcomes are well established. The relative contributions of individual (person-level) and environmental (neighborhood-level) risk factors to disease prevalence remain poorly understood.

Background: Both obesity and excessive gestational weight gain are associated with severe maternal morbidity, but there is limited literature evaluating whether the risk of severe maternal morbidity is further increased by the degree or severity of excessive gestational weight gain.

Objective: This study aimed to determine whether pregnant patients with excessive gestational weight gain who gained more than 50 lb were at increased risk of severe maternal morbidity compared with those who only moderately exceeded recommended gestational weight gain guidelines. A secondary objective was to determine whether patients who gained 10 lb more than the recommended upper limit of total weight gain for a given prepregnancy body mass index group were at increased risk of severe maternal morbidity compared with those who exceeded that upper limit by a lesser amount.

Background: The anterior minimally invasive (AMI) approach reduces soft tissue damage, risk of dislocation and enhances recovery, but it is associated with certain complications. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) through posterolateral (PL) and AMI approaches performed by the same surgeon, in order to determine the learning curve associated with this new approach.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent THA via PL and AMI approach between 2017 and 2022, with a minimum follow-up of 1 year.

Background: Exercise-induced compartment syndrome is a condition characterized by elevated pressure within a muscle compartment, resulting from repetitive loading or participation in sports activities. Primarily affecting the medial compartment of the foot, this rare condition manifests as sudden-onset pain in the medial aspect of the foot, without a discernible history of trauma, occurring during or after physical exertion. Diagnosis is primarily clinical in nature, as diagnostic imaging techniques provide limited utility.

Importance: Cesarean birth rate among nulliparous, term, singleton, vertex (NTSV) pregnancies is a standard quality measure in obstetrical care. There are limited data on how the number and type of preexisting conditions affect mode of delivery among primigravidae, and it is also uncertain how maternal comorbidity burden differs across racial and ethnic groups and whether this helps to explain disparities in the NTSV cesarean birth rate.

Objective: To determine the association between obstetric comorbidity index (OB-CMI) score and cesarean delivery among NTSV pregnancies and to evaluate whether disparities in mode of delivery exist based on race and ethnicity group after adjusting for covariate factors.

Introduction: Routine hemodialysis depends on well-functioning vascular access. In the event of vascular access dysfunction, percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty (PTA) is conducted to restore patency. Although an angioplasty procedure can provide an excellent immediate result by opening the access to allow dialysis to continue, the long-term patency rates are less than satisfactory.

Background: Bilateral asymmetric hip dislocation is uncommon in childhood, even more when associated with epiphyseal slippage, leading to catastrophic complications of the affected joints, requiring additional surgical interventions, and increasing patient morbidity. In this article, we present the case of a 15 years-old patient with a post-traumatic bilateral hip dislocation with epiphyseal slippage, initially managed with open reduction and fixation, with subsequent need of total hip arthroplasty. Afterward, the patient presented satisfactory outcomes.

Heart rate variability (HRV) corresponds to variations in heart rate or beat-beat time interval. This parameter reflects the status of the autonomic mechanisms of cardiovascular control, which may be influenced by changes characteristic of the life cycle of people, sedentary lifestyle, and various disease processes that directly or indirectly generate changes in the HRV and shift the autonomic balance, either towards greater sympathetic or parasympathetic influence on the heart. These antecedents support the use of HRV indices for the diagnosis and monitoring of various nosological entities in adults.
