Altered sperm parameters and subclinical hypothyroidism; A cross sectional study in Karachi, Pakistan.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the thyroid hormone (TH) profile in male infertile subjects with normal and altered sperm parameters and assess its relationship with spermogram and reproductive hormones.

Design: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Karachi from August 2017 till September 2018 on 376 male subjects between 25 and 55 years of age. The reference values for the "Normal Sperm Parameters" group was; sperm count (TC) >39 million per ejaculate, total sperm motility (Progressive and Non-progressive) >40% and normal morphology of ≥4%.

Vomiting in Neuromyelitis Optica: An Atypical Presentation.

Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), also known as Devic's disease, is a demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) that majorly involves the optic nerves and the spinal cord. It is an idiopathic and an autoimmune disorder. The patient typically presents with symptoms pertaining to the eye or spinal cord, such as a decrease in visual acuity, visual field defects, pain in the eyes, loss of vision, numbness, and weakness of the limbs with or without bladder dysfunction.

Role of Cardiologists in the Management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: First Reported Case of Three-vessel Disease in a Young Woman in Pakistan.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multi-system autoimmune disorder with predilection towards young women. SLE is associated with increased risk of incidence of cardiac diseases which include atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD) that can present clinically as angina or myocardial infarction (MI) or be clinically silent in the initial stages. Furthermore, the use of corticosteroids for the treatment of SLE exacerbates the risk of thrombosis, possibly resulting in adverse cardiovascular events in such patients.

Awareness, Knowledge, and Coverage of Vaccination Against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis Among Medical Students of Karachi: A Cross-sectional Analysis.

Background Along with reducing the global burden of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus, the DPT3 (diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus) vaccine protects health care professionals (HCPs) as well as vulnerable patients in their care. This study evaluates awareness, knowledge and coverage of DPT3 vaccine and boosters among medical students of public university in Karachi, Pakistan. Methods A cross-sectional study consisting of 281 participants selected through convenience sampling was conducted from July 2017 to July 2018 using a self-administered questionnaire.

A Gender-based Comparison in Health Behaviors and State of Happiness among University Students.

Objective The presence of good healthy behaviors among university students is imperative for their future life. This study aimed to compare positive health behaviors and state of happiness between the two genders of Bahria University (BU), Karachi, Pakistan. Subjects and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted at BU, Karachi, Pakistan.

Premenstrual Syndrome: Existence, Knowledge, and Attitude Among Female University Students in Karachi.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the existence, knowledge, and the attitude of female students towards premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in three universities in Karachi, Pakistan. A total of 448 female students participated in the study.

Self-reported academic performance in relation to health behaviours among Bahria University students.

Objective: To find an association between self-reported academic performance with different socio-demographic factors, health behaviours and mental health amongst university students.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Bahria University, Karachi, from January 2012 to December 2013, and comprised university students of different disciplines. An anonymous, self-reported questionnaire was distributed among the subjects.
