Health service accessibility and service users' position in the social space in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, 2006: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: To analyze association between social position and access to health services.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in primary health care centers in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where a project for improving accessibility was implemented. Pearson's chi-square test and logistic regression were used.

[Access to primary health care in a sanitary district of Salvador].

The demand for and use of health services results from a set of determinants that include socioeconomic, demographic and health characteristics and organization of the supply of services. The scope of this paper is to define access to and use of the health services in two Family Health Units (FHUs) of the sanitary district of Liberdade, establishing the pattern of use and identifying factors related to socio-organizational and geographical access. A cross-sectional population-based survey was conducted on individuals aged between 20 and 75 resident in the area covered by the two FHUs.

[Health services accessibility in a city of Northeast Brazil].

In order to analyze the implementation of measures targeting accessibility to primary health care in a municipality (county) in the State of Bahia, Brazil, a single case study was performed with two levels of analysis: system and services organization. The data were obtained from semi-structured interviews, observation of routine care, and document analysis. Of the four health units analyzed, three showed intermediate-level implementation of measures targeting accessibility.
