Purpose: Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), a frequent cause of partial epilepsy, is often associated with blurring of the gray-white matter junction in magnetic resonance images (MRI). To improve the recognition and delineation of FCD we developed a novel voxel-based image post-processing method for enhanced visualization of blurred gray-white matter junctions.

Methods: Using standard algorithms of statistical parametric mapping software (SPM99) a T1-weighted MRI volume data set is normalized and segmented.

Objective: Subacute haemorrhage is a common emergency in otorhinolaryngology. Rapid evaluation of the aetiology and localization is a precondition for suitable treatment. We demonstrate a rare case of primarily intractable epistaxis associated with occlusion of the circle of Willis (moyamoya disease).

Introduction: Progress in image-guided neurosurgery, and specifically in computer-assisted frameless navigation techniques and the application of robotic systems, has brought about many changes in the way we approach and treat pathologies involving the adult and pediatric central nervous system (CNS). Nevertheless, children are a patient group with special demands, in whom image-guided surgical techniques have certain limitations. In this article we address the common problem of registration accuracy in image-guided neurosurgery and assess both the reliability and the potential of ultrasound-based neuronavigation and robot-assisted neuroendoscopy in pediatric patients.

A 41-year-old patient with a history of low back pain underwent conventional radiography, CT, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and MR imaging. An inhomogeneous sclerotic-lytic lumbar vertebra with slightly thickened spongiotic structure and intense contrast enhancement were compatible with an L4 vertebral hemangioma. Embolization and posterior surgical osseous decompression was performed.

To evaluate the potential of combined 3-D B-mode and color Doppler (CD) data sets in the differentiation of breast masses, in 50 patients with histologically proven solid breast lesions, 3-D datasets were acquired. A 3-D display was created and volume calculation of tumors, their periphery and vasculature was performed. Time-intensity curves of enhancement after administration of a contrast agent were analyzed.

Background And Purpose: Rotational angiography (RA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) together may depict more intracranial aneurysms than DSA alone. We compared the diagnostic value of 3D RA and biplanar DSA in detecting, classifying, and planning treatment for ruptured intracranial aneurysms.

Methods: A total of 53 patients with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (Hunt and Hess grades I-V) underwent angiography with both methods.
