Background: Strongyloidiasis is an underdiagnosed and preventable life-threatening disease caused by infection with the helminth . Chronic asymptomatic infection can be sustained for decades, and immunosuppression can lead to disseminated infection, with a mortality rate of 70%-100%. In the neurosurgical population, corticosteroids are the most consistent cause of hyperinfection.

Background: Common bean is an important staple crop in the tropics of Africa, Asia and the Americas. Particularly smallholder farmers rely on bean as a source for calories, protein and micronutrients. Drought is a major production constraint for common bean, a situation that will be aggravated with current climate change scenarios.

Malformations of the craniocervical junction (Chiari type I and syringomyelia: classification, diagnosis and treatment).

Chiari disease (or malformation) is in general a congenital condition characterized by an anatomic defect of the base of the skull, in which the cerebellum and brain stem herniate through the foramen magnum into the cervical spinal canal. The onset of Chiari syndrome symptoms usually occurs in the second or third decade (age 25 to 45 years). Symptoms may vary between periods of exacerbation and remission.

Symptomatic occipital lobe epilepsy following neonatal hypoglycemia.

This study reports on the clinical, electrophysiologic, and neuroradiologic aspects of patients with epilepsy secondary to neonatal hypoglycemia. Fifteen patients with epilepsy and/or posterior cerebral lesions, and neonatal hypoglycemia were studied in the epilepsy clinic between February 1990 and March 2003. The mean age was 12 years.
