Strength of Dry and Wet Quartz in the Low-Temperature Plasticity Regime: Insights From Nanoindentation.

At low-temperature and high-stress conditions, quartz deformation is controlled by the kinetics of dislocation glide, that is, low-temperature plasticity (LTP). To investigate the relationship between intracrystalline HO content and the yield strength of quartz LTP, we have integrated spherical and Berkovich nanoindentation tests at room temperature on natural quartz with electron backscatter diffraction and secondary-ion mass spectrometry measurements of intracrystalline HO content. Dry (<20 wt ppm HO) and wet (20-100 wt ppm HO) crystals exhibit comparable indentation hardness.

Facing complications of direct anterior approach in total hip arthroplasty during the learning curve.

Background: This study aims to evaluate complications and early postoperative clinical outcomes of direct anterior approach (DAA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Methods: Ninety-one consecutive patients who underwent primary elective unilateral THA between January 2013 and December 2019 were identified. Collected data included age of patient, BMI, ASA score, EBL (estimated blood loss), LOS (length of stay), operating time, and intra/postoperative complications.

Early experience with the ATTUNE Total Knee Replacement System.

Background: Modern TKA implants promise to improve functional outcomes, stability, patient satisfaction and operating room efficiency. The purpose of this retrospective study is to evaluate our short-term clinical and radiological results and survival using the ATTUNE Total Knee Replacement System.

Methods: The authors reviewed 228 primary cemented TKAs using ATTUNE Total Knee Replacement System which were implanted between 2014 and 2018 concerning short-term clinical and radiographical outcomes and survival.
