Background: Recently, the Center for Medicare Services removed total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from the inpatient-only procedure list. The purpose of this study is to assess the role of demographics, medical comorbidities, and postsurgical complications in predicting safe discharge to home within 24 hours after TKA.
Methods: Patients undergoing primary TKA between 2011 and 2016 were identified in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.
Background: Guided growth has long been used in the lower extremities but has not been applied to varus or valgus deformity in the hip, as may occur in children with cerebral palsy or developmental dysplasia of the hip. The purpose of this study was to determine if screw, plate, or drilling techniques decreased the femoral neck-shaft angle (NSA) and articular trochanteric disease (ATD), as well as describe growth plate structural changes with each method.
Methods: Twelve 8-week-old lambs underwent proximal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis (IACUC approved) using either a screw (n=4), plate (n=4), or drilling procedure (n=4).
Objectives: To determine the relationship between injury severity surrogates and other patient factors with the development and severity of heterotopic ossification (HO) following open reduction internal fixation of acetabular fractures treated with a posterior approach.
Design: Retrospective review.

Background: Prophylactic approaches to prevent heterotopic ossification after acetabular fracture surgery have included indomethacin and/or single-dose external beam radiation therapy administered after surgery. Although preoperative radiation has been used for heterotopic ossification prophylaxis in the THA population, to our knowledge, no studies have compared preoperative and postoperative radiation therapy in the acetabular fracture population.
Questions/purposes: We determined whether heterotopic ossification frequency and severity were different between patients with acetabular fracture treated with prophylactic radiation therapy preoperatively and postoperatively.
Objective: The trochlear cleft is a recently described vertically oriented, low-signal cartilage lesion centered in the trough of the trochlear cartilage. The purpose of our study was to determine the incidence of clefts in an at-risk group of athletes and correlate these findings with clinical and physical examination results.
Materials And Methods: Sixteen female collegiate volleyball players consented to bilateral knee evaluations, which consisted of history, physical examination, and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.
Superomedial impaction of the anterior dome of the acetabulum is a known risk factor for poor outcomes after open reduction and internal fixation of acetabular fractures. The authors, using the anterior intrapelvic (modified Stoppa) approach to the acetabulum, describe a novel technique to help reduce and stabilize marginal impaction of the acetabular dome. In the senior author's experience, this technique has been helpful to achieve adequate reduction and stabilization.
