NCHi027-A is an iPSC line derived from skin fibroblasts of a 4 year and 8-month-old female with Posterior Cloaca (Type B) using Sendai Virus reprogramming.

Reversible covalent c-Jun N-terminal kinase inhibitors targeting a specific cysteine by precision-guided Michael-acceptor warheads.

There has been a surge of interest in covalent inhibitors for protein kinases in recent years. Despite success in oncology, the off-target reactivity of these molecules is still hampering the use of covalent warhead-based strategies. Herein, we disclose the development of precision-guided warheads to mitigate the off-target challenge.

Targeting a key protein-protein interaction surface on mitogen-activated protein kinases by a precision-guided warhead scaffold.

For mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) a shallow surface-distinct from the substrate binding pocket-called the D(ocking)-groove governs partner protein binding. Screening of broad range of Michael acceptor compounds identified a double-activated, sterically crowded cyclohexenone moiety as a promising scaffold. We show that compounds bearing this structurally complex chiral warhead are able to target the conserved MAPK D-groove cysteine via reversible covalent modification and interfere with the protein-protein interactions of MAPKs.

Participant Personal Characteristics and Adherence to Oral Capsules: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial of Antenatal Probiotics.

Background: Adherence to study interventions is critical to the conduct of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The relationships between participant characteristics and intervention adherence are understudied in pregnant populations. The purpose of this study was to conduct a secondary analysis of adherence to study capsules in a double-masked, placebo-controlled RCT of a probiotic intervention to reduce antenatal Group B Streptococcus colonization, in relationship to participant characteristics.

[Practical guidance for the implantation of non-transvenous ICD systems].

As an alternative to transvenous ICD systems, two non-transvenous ICD systems have been established in recent years: The subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD), which has been established for several years, has a presternal electrode that is implanted subcutaneously and offers a shock function and, to a limited extent, post-shock pacing. In addition, the extravascular ICD (EV-ICD) has been available in Europe since 2023 which does not require transvenous electrodes and offers the option of providing patients with antibradycardic and antitachycardic stimulation in combination with a conventional ICD function. The lead of this device is implanted substernally.

Method: This is a space-time-stratified case-crossover design, based on hospital-registered perinatal data between 2017 and 2021 (n = 47,807).

Advancing the care of individuals with cancer through innovation & technology: Proceedings from the cardiology oncology innovation summit 2020 and 2021.

As cancer therapies increase in effectiveness and patients' life expectancies improve, balancing oncologic efficacy while reducing acute and long-term cardiovascular toxicities has become of paramount importance. To address this pressing need, the Cardiology Oncology Innovation Network (COIN) was formed to bring together domain experts with the overarching goal of collaboratively investigating, applying, and educating widely on various forms of innovation to improve the quality of life and cardiovascular healthcare of patients undergoing and surviving cancer therapies. The COIN mission pillars of innovation, collaboration, and education have been implemented with cross-collaboration among academic institutions, private and public establishments, and industry and technology companies.

Emission enhancement in the luminescence performance of warm red light-emitting LiSrVO :Pr phosphors.

Warm red-emitting praseodymium-doped LiSrVO phosphors were synthesized via solid-state reaction. The phase formation was verified using an X-ray diffraction study and the morphology was investigated using a scanning electron microscope study. The LiSrVO :Pr phosphors emitted red light when exposed to ultraviolet light, indicating their possibility for use in warm white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs).

Engineering a tunable micropattern-array assay to sort single extracellular vesicles and particles to detect RNA and protein in situ.

The molecular heterogeneity of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and the co-isolation of physically similar particles, such as lipoproteins (LPs), confounds and limits the sensitivity of EV bulk biomarker characterization. Herein, we present a single-EV and particle (siEVP) protein and RNA assay ( PRA) to simultaneously detect mRNAs, miRNAs, and proteins in subpopulations of EVs and LPs. The PRA immobilizes and sorts particles via positive immunoselection onto micropatterns and focuses biomolecular signals in situ.

Keeping up with COVID-19 information: Capacity issues and knowledge uncertainty early in the pandemic.

This article examines the relationship between information consumption and mental health during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Adopting a qualitative approach, we interviewed 39 people in British Columbia, Canada between October and December 2020. Interestingly, half of the participants did not want to seek out new information on COVID-19, making their early insights and initial confusion salient.

Microencapsulation of Olive Oil by Dehydration of Emulsion: Effects of the Emulsion Formulation and Dehydration Process.

Microencapsulation of extra virgin olive oil has been taken into consideration. Initially, emulsions were prepared using extra virgin olive oil and aqueous solutions of different proportions of maltodextrin (MD) having dextrose equivalent (DE) 19 and whey protein isolates (WPI), such as 100% MD, 100% WPI, 25% MD + 75% WPI, 50% MD + 50% WPI and 75% MD + 25% WPI. Subsequently, emulsions were used for dehydration by either spray-drying (SD) or freeze-drying (FD) to produce olive oil microcapsules.

Impact of HPV molecular testing with partial genotyping as a feasibility study in cervical cancer community screening program in South India.

Cervical cancer can be eradicated by 2030 by the implementation of a global strategy involving the vaccination of young girls against human papillomavirus (HPV), screening 70% of women in 30-69 years of age and treating 90% of the women with precancerous lesions. For a country with a large population like India, all the three strategies can be a challenge. There is a need for implementation of a high throughput technology that can be scalable.

Introduction: Paracetamol is a leading cause of fatality following a toxic ingestion. Individualized treatment is imperative in improving outcomes. Acetylcysteine is the standard of care for paracetamol overdose.

Non-Physical and Ambient Sexual Harassment of Women Undergraduate University Students in Canada: A Diary Study.

Using a 60-day daily e-diary tool, 117 women undergraduate students reported sexual harassment on a Canadian university campus (4,283 diary surveys, collectively). Participants reported 181 incidents of both ambient sexual harassment ( 40 incidents 106 unwelcomed sexual jokes/remarks) and targeted personal of non-physical sexual harassment (35 incidents). Qualitative data document students' descriptions of these encounters and contextualize how these are part of everyday student life.

Influences of resting-state intrinsic functional brain connectivity on the antidepressant treatment response in late-life depression.

Background: Late-life depression (LLD) is characterized by differences in resting state functional connectivity within and between intrinsic functional networks. This study examined whether clinical improvement to antidepressant medications is associated with pre-randomization functional connectivity in intrinsic brain networks.

Methods: Participants were 95 elders aged 60 years or older with major depressive disorder.

Growth of Scenedesmus dimorphus in swine wastewater with versus without solid-liquid separation pretreatment.

Scenedesmus dimorphus was cultivated in raw and pretreated swine wastewater (SW) with 6-L photobioreactors (PBRs) to investigate the effect of solid-liquid separation on algal growth. The same aerated PBRs containing no algae were used as control. Moderate COD and nitrogen removal from the SW was achieved with the algal PBRs.

Isolated and Stressed? Examining the Effects of Management Communication in Alleviating Mental Health Symptoms during COVID-19.

The goal of this research was to assess the role of professional isolation on mental health symptoms via stress among employees working remotely due to COVID-19. Additionally, this research explored the interactive effect of management communication on the relationship between professional isolation and stress, and stress and mental health symptoms. In Study 1, behavior analysts who were working remotely as a result of the pandemic completed assessments of professional isolation, stress, and mental health symptoms at two points in time, separated by two weeks.

Cellular Models of Alpha-Synuclein Aggregation: What Have We Learned and Implications for Future Study.

Alpha-synuclein's role in diseases termed "synucleinopathies", including Parkinson's disease, has been well-documented. However, after over 25 years of research, we still do not fully understand the alpha-synuclein protein and its role in disease. In vitro cellular models are some of the most powerful tools that researchers have at their disposal to understand protein function.

Sex trouble: Sex/gender slippage, sex confusion, and sex obsession in machine learning using electronic health records.

False assumptions that sex and gender are binary, static, and concordant are deeply embedded in the medical system. As machine learning researchers use medical data to build tools to solve novel problems, understanding how existing systems represent sex/gender incorrectly is necessary to avoid perpetuating harm. In this perspective, we identify and discuss three factors to consider when working with sex/gender in research: "sex/gender slippage," the frequent substitution of sex and sex-related terms for gender and vice versa; "sex confusion," the fact that any given sex variable holds many different potential meanings; and "sex obsession," the idea that the relevant variable for most inquiries related to sex/gender is sex assigned at birth.

Assessment of Oncology Provider Knowledge and Cardiovascular Screening Practices: A Call for Heightened Screening.

Cardiac risk factors are known to compound the development of cardiotoxicities (CTx) in patients exposed to anthracycline (ANT) chemotherapy agents. National oncology and cardiology organizations have published recommendations for cardiovascular risk stratification and screening cancer patients following exposure to ANTs. The frequency with which oncology providers are integrating these principles into practice is unknown.

Estradiol treatment in young postmenopausal women with self-reported cognitive complaints: Effects on cholinergic-mediated cognitive performance.

Objective: Older women are at increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease compared to men. One proposed reason is that following menopause there is a decline in estrogens. Estrogens are important for cholinergic functioning and attenuate the impact of cholinergic antagonists on cognitive performance in postmenopausal women.
