Cancer resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors motivated investigations into leveraging the immunostimulatory properties of radiotherapy to overcome immune evasion and to improve treatment response. However, clinical benefits of radiotherapy-immunotherapy combinations have been modest. Routine concomitant tumor-draining lymph node irradiation (DLN IR) might be the culprit.

Background: Multiple risk assessment scales are available for predicting the development of pressure injuries (PIs) in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Most PI risk assessment tools have been validated at the time of admission; however, another time point during treatment could better reflect clinical changes and therefore, the risk of PIs.

Aim: The study aimed to examine the predictive validity of PI risk assessment scale designed for ICU patients, the conscious level, mobility, haemodynamic, oxygenation and nutrition (COMHON) index, at several time points or intervals during ICU stay.

Background: There is strong evidence supporting the association between environmental factors and increased risk of non-affective psychotic disorders. However, the use of sound statistical methods to account for spatial variations associated with environmental risk factors, such as urbanicity, migration, or deprivation, is scarce in the literature.

Methods: We studied the geographical distribution of non-affective first-episode psychosis (NA-FEP) in a northern region of Spain (Navarra) during a 54-month period considering area-level socioeconomic indicators as putative explanatory variables.

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) represent a broad spectrum of lymphoid proliferations, frequently associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. The molecular profile of pediatric monomorphic PTLDs (mPTLDs) has not been elucidated, and it is unknown whether they display similar genetic features as their counterpart in adult and immunocompetent (IMC) pediatric patients. In this study, we investigated 31 cases of pediatric mPTLD after solid organ transplantation, including 24 diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs), mostly classified as activated B cell, and 7 cases of Burkitt lymphoma (BL), 93% of which were EBV positive.

Glaesserella parasuis (Gp) is the etiological agent of Glässer's disease (GD), which causes important economic losses for the pig intensive production worldwide. This organism uses a smart protein-based receptor to acquire specifically iron from the porcine transferrin. This surface receptor consists of transferrin-binding protein A (TbpA) and transferrin-binding protein B (TbpB).

This work focuses on the use of ultrasound imaging to evaluate the cell concentration of dilute leukocyte suspensions in the range of 10-3000 cells/µL. First, numerical simulations were used to study the influence of the size dispersion and the leukocyte type on the performance of the concentration estimation algorithms, which were developed in previous works assuming single-sized scatterers. From this analysis, corrections to the mentioned algorithms were proposed and then the performance of these corrections was evaluated from experiments.

The objective of this cross-sectional descriptive study is to analyse the degree of compliance with the preventive measures for pressure injuries reported by an International Study Group in a cohort of adult critically ill patients. The level of risk of developing pressure injuries was determined using the Conscious level, Mobility, Hemodynamics, Oxygenation and Nutrition (COMHON) index. According to the level of risk, the preventive measures applied to each patient and scores on the different components of the index were recorded.

Experiments on event-related electroencephalographic oscillations in aged people typically include blocks of cognitive tasks with a few minutes of interval between them. The present exploratory study tested the effect of being engaged on cognitive tasks over the resting state cortical arousal after task completion, and whether it differs according to the level of the participant's cognitive decline. To investigate this issue, we used a local database including data in 30 healthy cognitively unimpaired (CU) persons and 40 matched patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI).

This work deals with the development of a methodology to evaluate the concentration in cell or particle suspensions from ultrasound images. The novelty of the method is based on two goals: first, it should be valid when the energy reaching the scatterers is unknown and cannot be measured or calibrated. In addition, it should be robust against echo overlap which may occur due to high scatterer concentration.

Working memory (WM) is a keystone of our cognitive abilities. Increasing load has been shown to dampen its performance and affect oscillatory neural activity in different frequency bands. Nevertheless, mixed results regarding fast frequencies activity and a lack of research on WM load modulations of cross-frequency phase-amplitude coupling mechanisms preclude a better understanding of the impact of increased WM load levels on brain activity as well as inter-regional communication and coordination supporting WM processes.
