Background/purpose: Rural adults and children are at higher risk for overweight and obesity. However, there are relatively few lifestyle modification programs available for these high-risk families, mainly because of the difficulty in reaching them. This mindfulness-based motivational interviewing (MM-based-MI) pilot aimed to improve parents' healthy eating index (HEI), collective family efficacy, family satisfaction, perceived stress, and depressive symptoms as well as parent-child dyads' eating patterns, physical activity (PA), and body mass index (BMI).

  • Family caregivers (FCGs) of cancer patients in hospice face psychological challenges and decreased quality of life due to caregiving demands, signaling a need for supportive interventions.
  • A virtual reality (VR) nature experience was implemented, allowing FCGs to immerse themselves in calming scenes at home, which they found to enhance relaxation and provide an escape from their caregiving stress.
  • Preliminary findings indicate that the VR intervention is feasible and acceptable, suggesting it can support the emotional health of hospice FCGs, though further research with larger and more diverse groups is necessary.

Background Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease associated with increased cardiovascular risk, partly due to dyslipidemia. This study aimed to evaluate the lipid profiles of Saudi Arabian patients with SLE and examine the impact of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and steroid use on these profiles, with a particular focus on patients with lupus nephritis. Methods A retrospective observational study was conducted at King Saud Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, including SLE patients treated at the hospital's rheumatology clinic between July 2023 and December 2023.

: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a critical complication of diabetes mellitus, posing significant health. While global studies have indicated a concerning lack of awareness regarding DKA among patients with diabetes, research specific to the northern area of Saudi Arabia remains limited. This study aims to explore the level of knowledge and awareness of DKA among patients with diabetes residing in the local region.

Introduction: Radiation Dose Monitoring Software (DMS) tools have been developed to monitor doses and alert computed tomography (CT) users of high radiation exposure. However, the causal factors for alerts and the impact of DMS in dose optimisation are poorly understood.

Aim: This review aims to identify high-dose CT examinations triggering alerts and their determinants, and to assess if the alerts from DMS help to reduce CT dose levels.

Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) is considered one of the main and serious problems facing the electrical grid. It occurs due to three-phase symmetric faults and asymmetric faults such as a double line to ground fault that applies in this system. This paper applies Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) to improve the LVRT capability and dynamic performance of an electrical grid linked to a Photovoltaic (PV)/Wind hybrid system through grid disturbances.

The distinct conformational characteristics, functionality, affordability, low toxicity, and usefulness make calixarene-based compounds a promising treatment option for cancer. The aim of the present study is to synthesize a new calixarene-based compound and assess of its anticancer potential on some human cancer cells. The synthesized C-4-Hydroxyphenylcalix[4] resorcinarene (HPCR) was characterized by several spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and X-ray crystallographic analysis to confirm its purity and identity.

  • Dapagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, is effective in reducing sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and hypothermia in both normal and diabetic rat models.
  • The study showed that dapagliflozin significantly improved kidney function by regulating AKI markers and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, even in non-diabetic subjects.
  • These findings suggest potential therapeutic benefits of dapagliflozin beyond its glucose-lowering effects, particularly in preventing kidney damage related to sepsis.

  • - Insufficient vitamin D levels are linked to chronic conditions like cancers, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary artery disease (CAD), with enzymes involved in vitamin D metabolism potentially affecting these levels.
  • - The study analyzed genetic mutations (rs1562902 C > T, rs12255372 G > T, and Δ32 bp deletion) for their relationships with reduced vitamin D and CAD risk, using specific PCR techniques for genotyping.
  • - Results showed significant associations between certain genetic variants and higher CAD risk, particularly the rs1562902 C > T genotype and Δ32 deletion, suggesting these mutations may be genetic indicators for CAD susceptibility.

Individuals with congenital color vision defects (CVDs) are at greater risk of misidentifying colors, necessitating an investigation into their ability to distinguish colors accurately. This study aimed to assess how individuals with CVDs perceive the colors in the Worth four-dot (W4D) and duochrome tests. It also explored whether individuals with CVDs require more detailed instructions from optometrists and eye care providers during these tests.

Background: Adiponectin (AQ) plays a role in regulating immune responses. Previous research indicates that B cells can affect T cell transmigration via the adiponectin-induced peptide PEPITEM in Caucasians. This study explores whether this mechanism is also applicable to Saudi populations, considering potential ethnic variations in immune response.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a malignant tumour, is characterized by expansion of mature monoclonal B lymphocytes expressing CD23 and CD5 in secondary lymphocytic organs, blood, and bone marrow. Here, we provide an in-depth review of CLL, emphasizing its pathophysiology, cytogenic changes, and treatment strategies, particularly the efficacy and challenges of treatments, such as Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors, B cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) inhibitors, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitors, as well as the need to understand their role in managing disease progression, chemoresistance, and intolerance. In addition, we explore efficacy based on patient response and comparison between monotherapy and combination therapy.
