Intrinsically disordered proteins and regions (IDPs and IDRs) and their importance in biology are becoming increasingly recognized in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and chemistry textbooks, as well as in current protein science and structural biology curricula. We argue that the sequence → dynamic conformational ensemble → function principle is of equal importance as the classical sequence → structure → function paradigm. To highlight this point, we describe the IDPs and/or IDRs behind the discoveries associated with 17 Nobel Prizes, 11 in Physiology or Medicine and 6 in Chemistry.

The p53/S100β complex is regarded as highly promising therapeutic target in cancer.

In vitro work has shown positive results using the CentriMag device for right-sided Fontan support, however the generalizability across various patient anatomies and cannulations is unknown. Computational simulations are first validated against in vitro modeling, then used to assess generalizability and further explore hemodynamic metrics including relative pressure changes, hepatic flow distribution, wall shear stress and power added.

The objective of this study was to determine the risk of UC associated with AA-related Chinese herbal products among ESRD patients.
Methods: We conducted a cohort study using the National Health Insurance reimbursement database to enroll all ESRD patients in Taiwan from 1998-2002.
This paper describes the use of spin centrifugation-dialysis (SCD) for small-scale concentration/purification of siRNA-lipid complexes designed for use as therapeutic agents for gene silencing. SCD consists of a two-step method for concentration, filtration and buffer exchange of lipid nanoparticles (LNP) to provide a homogeneous preparation suitable for injection. Here, we compare SCD with the more traditionally used tangential flow filtration (TFF), and demonstrate the physicochemical and biological comparability of LNPs produced with both methods.
