Background: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have promised superior efficacy to low molecular weight heparins in the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in total hip and knee arthroplasty. Methods: Eight patients (nine ankles) received arthrodiastasis by means of an Ilizarov frame between 2009 and 2013.
Synovial plicae, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, are increasingly being diagnosed with the expansion of arthroscopic procedures in synovial joints. Ankle plicae, however, remain an uncommon diagnosis and have previously only been reported as symptomatic in the post-traumatic ankle. Here the authors present a case report of an atraumatic, symptomatic ankle plica successfully treated with arthroscopic debridement.

The aim of this study is to compare biomechanical hip reconstruction in hip resurfacing, large-diameter femoral head hip arthroplasty and conventional total hip replacement.
Method: Sixty patient's post-operative radiographs were reviewed; 20 patients had a hip resurfacing (HR), 20 patients had a Large Head Metal-on-metal (LHM) hip replacement and 20 patients had a conventional small head Total Hip Replacement (THR).
