A low-temperature (225-300 °C) solid-vapor reaction process is reported for the synthesis of ultrathin NiGe films (∼6-23 nm) on 300 mm Si wafers covered with thermal oxide. The films were prepared via catalytic chemical vapor reaction of germane (GeH4) gas with physical vapor deposited (PVD) Ni films of different thickness (2-10 nm). The process optimization by investigating GeH4 partial pressure, reaction temperature, and time shows that low resistive, stoichiometric, and phase pure NiGe films can be formed within a broad window.

The micelle aggregation numbers (N(agg)) of several series of cationic oligomeric surfactants were determined by time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ) experiments, using advantageously 9,10-dimethylanthracene as fluorophore. The study comprises six dimeric ("gemini"), three trimeric, and two tetrameric surfactants, which are quaternary ammonium chlorides, with medium length spacer groups (C(3)-C(6)) separating the individual surfactant fragments. Two standard cationic surfactants served as references.

Wide-field imaging of individual multichromophoric molecules and successive photobleaching were used to determine, accurately, the relative position of the chromophores in such systems. First, a polyphenylene dendrimer with well-defined geometry was used to establish the accuracy in localization that can be obtained by this methodology. For a signal-to-noise ratio of 20, interchromophoric distances could be measured with 4 nm accuracy.
