Objective: To evaluate the serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels in multiple myeloma patients as an indicator of disease progression.

Methods: The case-control study was conducted at the Clinical Biochemistry Department of the National Centre of Haematology, Mustansiriyah University, Baghdad, Iraq, from October 2020 to July 2021, amd comprised diagnosed multiple myeloma patients and healthy controls of either gender aged 40-60 years. Neutrophil gelatinaseassociated lipocalin and renal functions were measured for all patients in addition to obtaining a complete history and physical examination.

Article Synopsis
  • The B cell receptor (BCR) signaling pathway is vital for B cell development and is also involved in the progression of B cell cancers, leading to continuous activation of Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK), enhancing survival and growth of malignant cells.
  • BTK inhibitors (BTKi), like ibrutinib and acalabrutinib, effectively treat several types of B cell malignancies by permanently blocking BTK, but many patients may relapse due to resistance mechanisms, including mutations at the BTK binding site.
  • Newer approaches, such as non-covalent BTKi (like pirtobrutinib) and proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs), have shown promise in overcoming

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia in adults. Despite its indolent clinical course, therapy refractoriness and disease progression still represent an unmet clinical need. Before the advent of pathway inhibitors, chemoimmunotherapy (CIT) was the commonest option for CLL treatment and is still widely used in areas with limited access to pathway inhibitors.

The natural stilbene compound resveratrol (RSV) was extracted and purified locally from the black grape skin () cultivated in Iraq. Cultures of human peripheral lymphocytes were obtained from the blood samples of patients with and without lymphoma to be treated with RSV at different concentrations. Three RSV concentration levels were subjected to isolated lymphocytes from blood samples of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and without lymphoma to estimate the change in TNF-α and IL-10.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) are considered parts of mature B cell neoplasms in WHO classification. They are both characterized by accumulation of B cells in blood, lymphoid tissues and bone marrow. Most of treatment protocols of NHL and CLL contain rituximab in addition to chemotherapy, which has been associated with improved survival.

Background: Smoking is a well-known related factor for many health problems in a human being through different ways of exposure.

Objectives: Thie aim of the study was to examine the effects of different types of cigarette smoking on hemoglobin level, high sensitive C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP), Malondialdehyde (MDA), and IgE levels in healthy adult subjects.

Methods: One hundred seventy-one healthy adult females and males were included in this study.

Unlabelled: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare myeloid malignancy. It can arise before, concurrent with, or following different malignant hematological diseases, most commonly acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome, or myeloproliferative neoplasms. Here we describe a 30-year-old female with AML-M1 who presented to the hematology department with bilateral breast pain and tenderness.

Background: Tyrosine kinases are highly expressed in platelets and play an important role in their activation process. Some studies have reported the blocking effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors on different platelet functions.

Objectives: Evaluate the effects of nilotinib on platelets aggregation in 42 patients with chronic phase of CML and correlate the results with clinical and hematological parameters: age, complete blood count and presentation.

Refractory/relapsed acute leukemia has always been a challenging problem for hematologist. Over the past decade emphasis has been made in the development of regimens containing fludarabine, combined with cytosine arabinoside for the treatment of refractory/relapsed acute leukemias. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of the combination of fludarabine, high dose cytarabine, and granulocyte colony stimulating factor in refractory relapsed cases of acute leukaemia, a prospective study is being conducted at the National Center of Hematology and hematology unit/Baghdad teaching hospital from July 2008 to July 2010.

Imatinib (Glivec(®)/Gleevec(®)) has shown long-term efficacy and safety in randomized trials. No large-scale studies have prospectively assessed the benefit-risk profile of an imatinib copy drug. We prospectively evaluated the response of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase in one institution.

Article Synopsis
  • Imatinib mesylate is the primary treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) but can cause various adverse effects during therapy.
  • A study monitored 200 CML patients from December 2007 to October 2009, focusing on the safety and side effects of imatinib treatment, noting common hematological (like anemia and leukopenia) and non-hematological effects (such as edema and weight gain).
  • The findings indicated that imatinib is generally safe and well-tolerated, with manageable side effects that do not require significant dose reductions or result in fatalities.
