: Spontaneous nystagmus during vertigo attacks of Menière's disease has been essentially described as horizontal, beating ipsilaterally (irritative type) or contralaterally (deficit type) to the hearing loss. Our main objective was to describe the characteristics of nystagmus during vertigo attacks. The second objective was to determine the feasibility of self-video recording of eye movements by a mobile phone.

Background: Morphological and structural abnormalities are common dental anomalies. Identifying DA and determining their prevalence can play an important role in reducing the risk of surgical intervention and improving occlusion, leading to successful dental treatments. Thus, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of DA using panoramic radiographs (OPG) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia according to gender.

Background: Approximately five million individuals have traumatic injuries annually. Implementing prehospital blood-component transfusion (PHBT), encompassing packed red blood cells (p-RBCs), plasma, or platelets, facilitates early hemostatic volume replacement following trauma. The lack of uniform PHBT guidelines persists, relying on diverse parameters and physician experience.

Background: Intraoperative neuromonitoring is an essential tool for detecting early intraoperative neurological changes during spinal surgery. Only rarely do seizures occur during transcranial motor-evoked potentials (TcMEP).

Case Description: A 44-year-old male presented with a magnetic resonance (MR)--documented L5-S1 T2-hyperintense intradural mass that heterogeneously enhanced with Gadolinium and extended through the right S1 neural foramen.

Article Synopsis
  • - Insufficient vitamin D levels are linked to chronic conditions like cancers, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary artery disease (CAD), with enzymes involved in vitamin D metabolism potentially affecting these levels.
  • - The study analyzed genetic mutations (rs1562902 C > T, rs12255372 G > T, and Δ32 bp deletion) for their relationships with reduced vitamin D and CAD risk, using specific PCR techniques for genotyping.
  • - Results showed significant associations between certain genetic variants and higher CAD risk, particularly the rs1562902 C > T genotype and Δ32 deletion, suggesting these mutations may be genetic indicators for CAD susceptibility.

Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NP) were incorporated into a hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPMC) and sodium alginate (NaAlg) matrix through a casting method to create bio-nanocomposite films. XRD analysis confirmed the semi-crystalline nature of the HPMC/NaAlg matrix, with a broad peak at 2θ = 21.22°, which decreased in intensity as CuO concentration increased, indicating a shift towards an amorphous structure.

Stress, a state of mental or emotional strain or tension brought on by challenging or demanding events might hamper a dentist's ability to react quickly and prudently. Their ability to deal with difficult patients may also be compromised, especially when dealing with frightened or anxious people. The main goal of this study was to survey a wide range of dental professionals from different backgrounds, including undergraduates, general practitioners and specialists, and determine how much stress each group was experiencing and how it affected both the participants and the treated patients.

The present study investigates the impact of varying concentrations of PVC microplastics (PVC-MPs) - specifically 0 (no PVC-MPs), 2, and 4 mg L -alongside different arsenic (As) levels of 0 (no As), 150, and 300 mg kg in the soil, with the concurrent application of copper oxide-nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) at 0 (no CuO -NPs), 25 and 50 µg mL to barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants. This research primarily aims to assess plant growth and biomass, photosynthetic pigments and gas exchange characteristics, oxidative stress indicators, as well as the response of various antioxidants (both enzymatic and non-enzymatic) and their relevant genes expression, proline metabolism, the AsA-GSH cycle, and cellular fractionation within the plants.

Walker-Warburg Syndrome is a genetically heterogeneous disease with autosomal recessive inheritance characterized by brain and eye deformities, profound mental retardation, congenital muscular dystrophy, and early death. This case study demonstrates a mutation on chromosome 12q14 in the TMEM5 gene (RXYLT1; 605862), which encodes a transmembrane protein with glycosyltransferase function. We present a case of a full-term male baby delivered by Cesarean section due to macrocephaly.

In the cross-plane single-molecule junctions, the correlation between molecular aromaticity and conductance remained puzzling. Cross-plane break junction (XPBJ) provides new insight into understanding the role of aromaticity and conjugation to molecules on charge transport through the planar molecules. In this work, we investigated the modulation of cross-plane charge transport in pyrene derivatives by hydrogenation and substituents based on the XPBJ method that differs from those used in-plane transport.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored the relationship between microscopic colitis (MC) and celiac disease (CD) using a large population database from 2016-2019, focusing on patient data analyzed through medical codes.
  • - Out of over 26 million patients, 6,836 had MC, with a significant association to CD found in both statistical analyses, indicating that patients with MC are more likely to have CD (OR = 15.71).
  • - The presence of CD in patients with MC was linked to higher in-hospital mortality, suggesting CD may act as an independent risk factor for worse outcomes in these patients, highlighting the need for further studies.

Article Synopsis
  • NLCs (nanostructured lipid carriers) enhance drug permeability and bioavailability by using a combination of solid and liquid lipids, which improves drug loading and entrapment efficiency.
  • Various methods can be employed to create NLCs, such as hot and cold homogenization, micro-emulsion, and evaporative techniques, allowing them to deliver both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs through multiple routes including oral and transdermal.
  • NLCs are beneficial for treating multiple conditions, including cancer and infections, by enabling targeted drug delivery and reducing side effects, ultimately improving bioavailability and pharmacological activity.

Gallstone ileus, a rare and potentially fatal complication of cholelithiasis, occurs when gallstones breach the gastrointestinal tract through a fistula, causing an obstruction and potentially leading to severe complications. This case report details the experience of a 44-year-old woman with gallstone ileus stemming from an unnoticed cholecystoduodenal fistula following a routine cholecystectomy. The fistula was only discovered during surgery despite advanced imaging, revealing extensive adhesions.

Intussusception (ISN) is a dangerous condition where a portion of the intestine slides into an adjacent area of the intestine. This telescoping motion frequently prevents liquids or food from flowing through. Developing management guidelines for ileocolic (IC) intussusception was the aim of this systematic study.

Background and objectives Ehrlich solid carcinoma (ESC) is a type of tumor originating from a spontaneous mammary adenocarcinoma in mice. It is highly aggressive and fast-growing and can create a solid undifferentiated mass when inserted under the skin. This makes it an ideal model for assessing cancer biology and tumor immunology.
