Introduction Tonsillectomy is the most common surgery in otorhinolaryngology worldwide, with many indications in adults and children. Traditionally, all tonsillectomy specimens are routinely submitted for histopathological examination, even in the absence of clinical suspicion of malignancy. This practice has been debated due to its resource implications and the low yield of malignancy in routine cases.

Our Experience With Intractable Epistaxis After COVID-19 Nasopharyngeal Swab.

Introduction: Although a COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab is a safe procedure routinely performed by healthcare providers, it can lead to complications that can be life-threatening. We present seven cases of intractable epistaxis following a nasopharyngeal swab that required sphenopalatine artery ligation. We aim to shed light on this life-threatening condition, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and mitigating such complications.

Pneumatized Nasal Septum Extending to the Left Frontal Sinus "Septo-Frontal Cell": A Case Report.

Multiple anatomical variations in the nasal cavity are well-described in the literature. We describe a rare case of pneumatization of the frontal sinus in the nasal septum that we term "Septo-Frontal Cell". To the best of our knowledge, this pattern of nasal septum pneumatization has not been described in the literature before.

This study investigates the mercury (Hg) levels distribution in fish and fish products and their relationships with fish types, weights, protein, and lipid contents in Qatar. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed to analyze the influence of lipids and protein content on Hg accumulation in the fish tissues. Additionally, the impact of Hg concentration and fish consumption on the estimated weekly intake (EWI).

Health risk assessment of methyl mercury from fish consumption in a sample of adult Qatari residents.

Fish constitutes an essential source of high-quality protein and is, at the same time, the source of exposure to many hazardous contaminants, namely mercury and methyl mercury (MeHg). This study aims at assessing the risk that MeHg poses to the health of adult Qatari residents through fish consumption. Data on fish consumption were collected using a self-administered online survey composed of three sections that collected information about the fish-eating patterns of the participants.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support and total thyroidectomy in patients with refractory thyroid storm: case series and literature review.

Thyroid storm (TS) is a rare but life-threatening complication of hyperthyroidism in which multiorgan failure (MOF) is the most common cause of death. Early diagnosis and treatment of TS are challenging. We presented two cases with refractory TS complicated with arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock and MOF and were not responding to medical treatment, therapeutic plasma exchange or continuous renal replacement therapy.

Recycling of Date Pits Into a Green Adsorbent for Removal of Heavy Metals: A Fractional Factorial Design-Based Approach.

Date pits (DPs) have been recycled into a low-cost adsorbent for removing of selected heavy metals (HMs) from artificially contaminated aqueous solutions. Adsorption of targeted HMs, both by raw date pits (RDP) and burnt date pits (BDP) was tested. Results showed that BDP is more efficient as an adsorbent and mostly adsorbing Cu(II).

Intussusception after laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass: A rare complication.

Introduction: Intussusception after one anastomosis gastric bypass is a rare postoperative complication that occurs with bowel obstruction. The diagnosis may be challenging because of long-standing, intermittent, nonspecific symptoms. Our paper describes an unusual case of antegrade intussusception that occurred 28 months after laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass surgery.

Management and outcomes of hyperparathyroidism: a case series from a single institution over two decades.

Background: Hyperparathyroidism is a frequent endocrine disorder with variable clinical manifestations and outcomes. We aimed to evaluate clinical presentations, management and outcomes of hyperparathyroidism.

We investigated the contribution of JAK2 rs2203724 and STAT3 rs1053023 and rs1053004 to the susceptibility of idiopathic recurrent miscarriage (IRM) in Bahraini (246 cases and 279 controls) and Tunisian (235 cases and 235 controls) Arabs. The distribution of JAK2 rs2203724 and STAT3 rs1053023 genotypes were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) in both communities, while mild deviation from HWE was noted for rs1053004 in Tunisians but not Bahraini. JAK2 rs2203724 was not associated with IRM in either community, while STAT3 rs1053023 was positively associated with IRM in both Bahraini and Tunisian women.
