The core and surface structure, and magnetism of mechano-synthesized LaFeO nanoparticles (30-40 nm), Eu-doped (LaEuFeO), and Eu/Cr co-doped (LaEuFeCrO) are reported. Doping results in a transition from the O'-type to the O-type distorted structure. Traces of reactants, intermediate phases, and a small amount of Eu ions were detected on the surfaces of the nanoparticles.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate Brucella infection in farm animals in Saham, Oman, with reference to a survey carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries (MAF) for Brucellosis during the period of May to July 2016 in Saham, following an outbreak of human brucellosis. We wanted to apply different serological, bacteriological and molecular tests in a time frame (phase 1, 2 & 3) with reference to the pivotal time of a human brucellosis outbreak to ascertain the status of the disease in Saham area where the MAF survey was conducted. Blood samples were collected from farm animals and sera were screened in parallel for Brucella antibodies using different serological tests.

Serological, cultural and molecular evidence of Brucella melitensis infection in goats in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Sultanate of Oman.

Brucellosis, one of the most common zoonotic diseases and has significant public health and economic importance worldwide. Few studies and reports have been performed to estimate the true prevalence of animal brucellosis in the Sultanate of Oman; however, no incidence of the disease was previously reported in Al Jabal Al Akhdar. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of brucellosis in goats in eight villages in Al Jebal Al Akhdar, Sultanate of Oman, namely: Al Aqaieb, Al Helailat, Al Ghilayil, Hail Al Hedap, Da'an Al Hamra, Shnoot, Al Qasha'e and Al Sarah, Al Jabal Al Akhdar in the Sultanate of Oman.

Investigation of electrically active defects in InGaAs quantum wire intermediate-band solar cells using deep-level transient spectroscopy technique.

InGaAs quantum wire (QWr) intermediate-band solar cell-based nanostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy are studied. The electrical and interface properties of these solar cell devices, as determined by current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) techniques, were found to change with temperature over a wide range of 20-340 K. The electron and hole traps present in these devices have been investigated using deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS).

Effects of transportation at high ambient temperatures on physiological responses, carcass and meat quality characteristics of three breeds of Omani goats.

The experiment was designed to determine the effects of short road transportation in an open truck during the hot season on live weight shrink, physiological responses, carcass, and meat quality characteristics in three breeds of Omani goats. Forty-two male goats (12months of age) representing equally three breeds of Omani goats (Batina, Dhofari, and Jabal Akhdar) were divided into two groups: 2h transportation stress (TS) or not transported (NT). The NT group remained unstressed in holding pens with feed and water provided ad libitum prior to slaughter, while the TS group was transported on the day of slaughter 100km in an open truck.

An evaluation of the growth, carcass and meat quality characteristics of Omani goat breeds.

Body weight, growth, carcass and meat quality characteristics were evaluated in three breeds of goats (Batina, Dhofari and Jabal Akdhar) in Oman. Fourteen intact male goats from each breed were used. Jabal Akdhar goats had significantly heavier slaughter, empty body, and carcass weights and higher growth rates than Dhofari and Batina goats.
