  • Antimicrobial resistance is a growing concern, largely due to improper antibiotic use, storage, and re-use by residents of Saudi Arabia, leading to serious health risks.
  • A study surveyed 738 participants across various demographics, revealing that while most understood the purpose of antibiotics, a significant number reused leftover medications without completing prescribed courses.
  • Findings suggest a need for enhanced public health measures and education to address the misuse of antibiotics, especially among families with children.

Fissure sealants commonly exhibit weak mechanical and physical properties, potentially compromising their effectiveness in preventing dental caries. Therefore, this laboratory study aimed to synthesize and characterize experimental pit and fissure sealants in comparison with a commercially available sealant. Three different formulations of experimental pit and fissure sealing materials were synthesized using a blend of bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) monomers.

Cancer is a complex disease driven by the dysregulation of multiple signaling pathways and cellular processes. The development of compounds capable of exerting multitarget actions against these key pathways involved in cancer progression is a promising therapeutic approach. Here, a series of novel (/)--(4-(2-(2-(substituted)hydrazineyl)-2-oxoethyl)thiazol-2-yl)-1-indole-2-carboxamide derivatives (-) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their biological activity.

Orthodontic appliances significantly influence the microbiological dynamics within the oral cavity, transforming symbiotic relationships into dysbiotic states that can lead to periodontal diseases. This review synthesizes current findings on how orthodontic treatments, particularly fixed and removable appliances, foster niches for bacterial accumulation and complicate oral hygiene maintenance. Advanced culture-independent methods were employed to identify shifts toward anaerobic and pathogenic bacteria, with fixed appliances showing a more pronounced impact compared to clear aligners.

  • Colorectal cancer is a major public health issue globally, emphasizing the need for early detection and screening guidelines, particularly for at-risk populations like older adults.
  • A study in Kuwait surveyed adults aged 45-75 to assess their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding colorectal cancer screening using a self-administered questionnaire.
  • Results showed low levels of knowledge (<50%) and practices (<30%) among participants, despite the fact that their attitudes toward screening were generally positive, indicating a disconnect that could impact compliance.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between noninvasive ventilation (NIV) compared with invasive ventilation and mortality in subjects with severe acute respiratory infection.

Methods: This was a retrospective multi-center study of subjects with severe acute respiratory infection treated with ventilatory support between September 2012 and June 2018. We compared the 90-d mortality of subjects managed initially with NIV (NIV group) with those managed with invasive ventilation only (invasive ventilation group), adjusting by propensity score.

In this study, we present a comprehensive investigation of 2-amino-4,6-diphenylnicotinonitriles (APNs, -), including their synthesis, cytotoxicity against breast cancer cell lines, and photophysical properties. Compound demonstrates exceptional cytotoxicity, surpassing the potency of Doxorubicin. The fluorescence spectra of the synthesized - in different solvents reveal solvent-dependent shifts in the emission maximum values, highlighting the influence of the solvent environment on their fluorescence properties.

Background:  Brucellosis is among the most common zoonotic bacterial infections, leading to major public health consequences in endemic areas such as Saudi Arabia. Primary healthcare is crucial in controlling brucellosis, as it serves as the frontline for disease prevention, early detection, and appropriate management. However, enhancing the contribution of primary healthcare to the entire brucellosis notification process is necessary to minimize the underreporting and inadequate data collection, which hinders the implementation of effective control measures.

Background: The alpha angle has been widely used in the assessment of cam-type of impingement, but recent studies have shown that this angle may also be high in asymptomatic patients. The aim of this study is to report the prevalence of cam-type morphology in asymptomatic volunteers and explore its correlation with hip clinical and radiological parameters.

Methods: This single-centre prospective study included 48 asymptomatic male volunteers (96 hips).

The steady increase in the use of electronic cigarettes (ECs) has reached an epidemic level, increasing mortality and morbidity, mainly due to pulmonary toxicity. Several mechanisms are involved in EC-induced toxicity, including oxidative stress and increased inflammation. Concurrently, the integrity of cellular metabolism is essential for cellular homeostasis and mitigation of toxic insults.

Today, the Arabian gazelle () occurs only in small, scattered populations on the Arabian Peninsula and is classified as 'vulnerable', due to intensive hunting and competition with livestock. The taxonomy of this threatened species is still under debate, hampering conservation efforts while ex-situ breeding programs could be an appropriate conservation measure to prevent the species from going extinct. In our study, we attempted to elucidate the radiation of on the Arabian Peninsula, and to ask whether the population genetic structure allows to distinguish between discrete conservation units.

This study examined the effects of various treatments on removing pesticide residues and toxic elements in rice. In parallel, nutritional elements, magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), and phosphorous (P), were measured to investigate the effect of these washing treatments on the nutritional value of rice. A naturally contaminated rice sample containing five widespread used pesticides (azoxystrobin, buprofezin, carbendazim, and propiconazole) and toxic elements, arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and essential elements, was washed using several washing agents, including boiling water, 5% sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), 5% acetic acid (vinegar), 5% citric acid, and 5% sodium chloride (salt).
