Prevalence, Treatment, and Unmet Needs of Migraine in the Middle East: A Systematic Review.

Introduction: Migraine is a debilitating neurological disorder characterized by recurrent throbbing, moderate-to-severe headaches that disrupt daily chores, leisure, and social activities of patients, impacting their overall quality of life (QoL). Despite the high disease burden, there is a scarcity of data on migraines within the Middle East (ME) region. Thus, a systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to examine epidemiological data, treatment patterns, QoL, and unmet needs regarding migraines in the ME region.

Introduction: Migraine is a recurrent, disabling neurological disorder with a substantial global disease burden. However, limited real-world data are available on the patient characteristics, treatment patterns, comorbidities, and economic burden of migraine in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this study, we evaluated the disease burden, comorbidities, treatment patterns, specialties involved in migraine diagnosis, and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and associated costs in patients with migraine in Dubai, UAE.

Unmet Needs of Patients Living with Migraine in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries.

The scale of migraine and its impact on the lives of patients in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries may be underestimated by healthcare professionals and the public and unmet needs in the provision of migraine medical care may exist. This article reports the key outcomes from a meeting of migraine specialists and their patients organised by the Emirates Neurology Society to learn more about the patient diagnosis and treatment journey and the extent to which migraine affects daily life. Patient stories indicate that the burden of migraine is underestimated, migraine is not generally recognised as a disease, delayed and incorrect diagnoses are common, and that achieving symptom control is often more a question of good luck rather than good management.

A Rare Presentation of Small Bowel Perforation Secondary to Microscopic Metastasis of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): A Case Report.

Gastrointestinal tract perforation (GITP) due to metastatic lung cancer is an exceptionally rare occurrence. Symptoms can range from mild abdominal discomfort to severe and life-threatening bowel perforation. In this case presentation, we describe an unusual instance involving squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where microscopic metastases in the small bowel led to bowel perforation.

Consensus-Based Recommendations on the Use of CGRP-Based Therapies for Migraine Prevention in the UAE.

Introduction: Migraine is a common debilitating neurological disorder affecting a large proportion of the general population. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a 37-amino acid neuropeptide, plays a key role in the pathophysiology of migraine, and the development of therapies targeting the anti-CGRP pathway has revolutionized the field of migraine treatment.

Methods: An expert task force of neurologists in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) developed and critically assessed recommendations on the use of CGRP-based therapies in migraine treatment and management in the UAE, based on available published literature.

The burden of asthma among children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia: A national cross-sectional survey.

Background: Asthma disease is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. Studies assessing asthma prevalence in Saudi Arabia have been variable and not recently updated.

Objectives: We sought to assess asthma prevalence, severity, and related risk factors among children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia.

Quantifying the advantages and acceptability of linking dialysis machines to an electronic medical record.

Aim: To establish and quantify the time saved by redirecting nursing workload from recording and entering haemodynamic data during chronic dialysis sessions by linking dialysis machines directly to the electronic medical record.

Methods: We developed a bespoke interface from the HL7 feed from the dialysis machines (largely Fresenius 5008) to our EMR system (Cerner). We quantified the time nurses spent with the patient, computer, dialysis machine and sorting our patient related issues by observation using independent observers in a time and motion study.

Coexistence of pulmonary tuberculosis with pulmonary sarcoidosis and skin sarcoidosis: a case report.

Background: Necrotising granulomatous diseases of the lungs exhibit a narrow range of differential diagnoses. Tuberculosis accounts for most of these cases, while sarcoidosis is an uncommon entity in this group but both possess similar clinical and radiological similarities. One must consider a diagnosis of sarcoidosis once the standard anti-mycobacterial medications fail to achieve a clinical improvement.

Isolated pancreatic transection is a rare surgical condition that occurs more commonly following blunt abdominal trauma. It carries a high degree of morbidity and mortality, and the management remains a source of debate as universally accepted guidelines are not well established owing to the paucity in clinical experience and large series. We presented a case of an isolated pancreatic transection following blunt abdominal trauma.

Challenging clinical presentation of Zinner syndrome.

Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital malformation of the mesonephric duct comprising of seminal vesicle cyst, ipsilateral renal agenesis, and ejaculatory duct obstruction.
