Objectives: Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) represent a diagnostic challenge during cervical cytology. This study aimed to review and identify high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) genotypes among previously diagnosed ASC-US cases in Kuwait.

Methods: This retrospective study analysed 180 cases diagnosed as ASC-US between June 2017 and May 2018 at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Kuwait.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine gynaecological infectious agents observed in conventional and modified Papanicolaou cervical smears (CS) at a tertiary care hospital in Kuwait.

Methods: This retrospective study analysed 121,443 satisfactory CS samples collected between 1997-2014 at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Kuwait. Conventional CS samples were obtained between 1997-2005, while modified CS were obtained between 2006-2014 following the introduction of ThinPrep testing (Hologic Corp.

Objectives: The study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of different high risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes amongst women residing in Kuwait with epithelial abnormalities in cervical smears and to detect any difference in the distribution of these genotypes between Kuwaiti and Non-Kuwaiti women or between the cytological diagnosis groups.

Materials And Methods: Thinprep specimens from women with epithelial abnormalities on cervical smears were subjected to Aptima HR-HPV assay and those found to be HR-HPV positive were genotyped using the Aptima HPV genotyping assay into three groups (i) HPV 16, (ii) HPV 18/45 and (iii) others.

Results: HR-HPV was found in 229 (30.

Objectives: This study aimed to analyse trends in epithelial cell abnormalities (ECAs) in cervical cytology at a tertiary care hospital in Kuwait.

Methods: ECAs in 135,766 reports were compared over three seven-year periods between 1992 and 2012. Conventional Papanicolaou (Pap) smear tests were used in the first two periods and ThinPrep (Hologic Corp.

Objective: To assess whether epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and survivin immunostaining of tumour cells in urinary cytology and tissue of patients with bladder cancer has a prognostic significance.

Design: Prospective study

Setting: Department of Surgery (Division of Urology), Mubarak Al-Kabeer Teaching Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, Kuwait

Subjects: Urine cytology smears obtainedpriorto cystoscopy in patients with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder were immunostained for EGFR and survivin. Bladder cancer tissue resected at surgery was also immunostained for EGFR and survivin expression.

Introduction: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is often complicated by pleural effusion and ascites. The present study is an attempt to categorize the lymphomatous effusions according to the WHO classification, using archival material.

Methods: May-Grünwald-Giemsa and Papanicolaou-stained smears of 31 lymphomatous effusion specimens were reviewed.

Introduction: Intracytoplasmic lumens (ICL) with or without magenta material and transgressing vessels are features of Hürthle cell neoplasms (HCN). After detection of intracytoplasmic colloid inclusions (CIs) including targetoid (magenta) body-like structures in the Hürthle cells (HC) in a case of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), we reviewed cases of HT, thyroid neoplasms, hyperplastic nodules (HN) and colloid goitres to determine the frequency of these structures. Further, an attempt was made to find out the significance of CIs.

Objective: To evaluate the possibility of replacing histologic biopsy of azoospermic testes by fine needle aspiration (FNA) for diagnostic and management purposes.

Study Design: Twenty-seven patients were examined under general anesthesia, and 53 testes were biopsied by FNA. Fifty-four testes were biopsied for histologic examination.

Objective: To evaluate the cytocellularity and histocellularity of lobular carcinoma (LC) and the relationship to high false negative results of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).

Study Design: In this retrospective study, cellularity was studied in 60 cases of classic LC, LC variants and lobular carcinoma in situ, comparing cytologic smears to their corresponding histologic sections. The cytologic smears were grouped into acellular, low, moderate and high categories, and the histologic sections were grouped into low, moderate and high categories.

There are several subtypes of lobular carcinoma (LC), and their cytomorphologic features differ from classic lobular carcinoma (CLC). The finer details of the differences between CLC and variant lobular carcinoma (VLC) have not been adequately studied. A comparative study of 54 cases of CLC and VLC was done in order to verify any statistically significant differences between them.

Background: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is a useful tool in the diagnosis of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic pulmonary infections. There have been rare reports of parasitic infestations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. This is the first case report on detecting a Schistosoma ova in BAL fluid.
