Diabetes mellitus (DM) causes multiple kidney problems ultimately leading to renal failure, with a marked rise in the number of patients worldwide requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT). Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains a leading cause of morbidity and death despite advancements in treatment; however, recent cardiovascular outcome trials have highlighted the potential benefits of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular risks in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients, leading to recommendations for their use following metformin in clinical guidelines. The meta-analysis was run on RevMan 5.

Introduction And Importance: A chondroid syringoma is an exceptionally rare benign lesion of the sweat glands also known as mixed tumor of the skin (MTS). It can occur in different areas of the head and neck such as the lips, cheek, nose and scalp (Gotoh et al., 2022 [1]).

It is a time-sensitive condition in which twisting of the spermatic cord and testicular blood supply occurs, causing acute onset severe scrotal pain. The incidence of testicular torsion is highest amongst prepubertal males; however, it can occur at any age.

The ureteric diameter and accessibility play a crucial role in the management of urolithiasis in both overweight and normal weight patients. Studies have shown that obesity can lead to changes in ureter diameter where excessive body fat can exert pressure on the kidneys, causing them to enlarge in size and this enlargement can result in a compression of the adjacent structures, including the ureter.

The prevalence of patients requiring dialysis in GCC countries is increasing, with a current mean prevalence of 551 per million population.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has issued a law obligating couples to undergo premarital screening to detect those at risk of having children affected with these disorders. The aim of this study was to analyze the marital decisions of couples at risk for hemoglobinopathies and follow up the outcomes.

We provide the first description of DM prevalence, related outcomes, and the hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)/mortality relationship in national hemodialysis (HD) patient samples across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Methods: We analyzed data from the prospective Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) in the GCC (2012-2018, = 2274 HD patients ≥18 years old).
There is a paucity of data on epidemiology along with an incomplete registry of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), nephrologist workforce, and variability among the countries of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The study is an observation, descriptive study which aimed to describe current ESKD burden, nephrologist density, and kidney care infrastructure in GCC. Responses to a questionnaire-based survey obtained from representatives of the Nephrology Societies of GCC countries were analyzed.

Nasopharyngeal swab was done as a prerequisite for admission or prior to admission as part of random testing. Two methods of viral testing were employed: Xpert® Xpress SARS-CoV-2 (rapid test) and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

Methods: A single-center cross-sectional, retrospective study on 697 cases of appendicitis admitted in the year 2018. Inclusion criteria: patients admitted with acute appendicitis who underwent appendectomy of all ages.
Results: Out of 34 patients who underwent gastrostomy tube insertion, 30 patients had their long tube replaced by a button gastrostomy. Majority were males ( = 18, 60%). Prolonged nasogastric tube feeding was the main indication of referral ( = 17, 56%) followed by feed intolerance ( = 6, 17%) and gastroesophageal reflux disease ( = 5, 16%).

Management options for VUR vary from continuous antibiotic prophylaxis (CAP) to surgery via either endoscopic subureteric injection of a bulking agent or open anti-reflux surgery. In this study, we assess the efficacy of subureteric injections of Dextranomer/Hyaluronic acid Copolymer (Deflux) in managing primary VUR in infant patients with high-grade VUR.

We report the relationship of PTH with mortality in this largest GCC cohort of patients on hemodialysis studied to date.
Methods: Data were from randomly selected national samples of hemodialysis facilities in GCC-DOPPS phases 5 and 6 (2012-2018).

Introduction: Sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies are prevalent in Bahrain. In our hospital, we often encounter children with gallstones; sometimes gallstones are discovered on routine abdominal ultrasound, and in other cases, patients present with symptoms. Elective cholecystectomy has been controversial in patients with sickle cell disease and cholelithiasis because surgery can be a challenge.

A genome-wide association study revealed that the two pore segment channel 2 (TPCN2) gene is strongly linked to pigmentation variations. TPCN2 encodes the two-pore channel 2 (TPC2) protein, a cation channel.

Members of the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein (WASP) family play a fundamental role stimulating actin assembly. WASP family proteins contain a WH2 motif that binds globular actin (G-actin) and a central-acidic motif that binds the Arp2/3 complex, thus promoting the formation of branched actin filaments.

Conclusion: Although a rare diagnosis, encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis in patients undergoing CAPD has a high morbidity and mortality. Diagnosis is often delayed because clinical features are insidious and nonspecific.
Aim: Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is arguably the most serious complication of chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy with extremely high mortality rates. We aimed to establish the rates of EPS and factors associated with its development in a single center.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of all our PD patients from 1 January 1989 until 31 December 2008.
