Article Synopsis
  • Sonography is an effective diagnostic imaging tool for patients with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) co-infection, allowing for the identification of various complications like enlarged lymph nodes and pleural effusion.
  • An extensive literature review identified themes around the use of ultrasound in diagnosing extrapulmonary TB (EPTB) in resource-constrained settings, highlighting its rapid, cost-effective, and portable nature.
  • Training sonographers in areas heavily affected by HIV/AIDS and TB to utilize focused assessments with sonography for HIV (FASH) can improve early diagnosis and treatment, contributing to global health goals of reducing HIV and TB epidemics.

Introduction: Exposure Index (EI) is incorporated into Digital Radiography (DR) systems to indicate incorrect exposure to enable matching exposure to the desired speed class of operation. However, knowledge of the utilization of EI by radiographers in a low-income country has not been investigated.

Methods: A pre-tested questionnaire designed using Google forms, with open and close-ended questions was shared online with radiographers working with DR systems in public and private health facilities in some cities located in southern Nigeria.

Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) provide benchmarks for dose optimisation. We aimed to propose DRLs for paediatric head computed tomography (CT) in Nigeria and assess if facilities adapt protocols to age-specific standardisations. Volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose-length-product (DLP) of at least 20 paediatric patients per age group were extracted from 11 facilities and used to propose DRLs.
