Collagen type I is the main structural unit in skin tissue and is therefore used preferentially in skin tissue scaffolds. However, collagen-based 3D scaffolds have weak aqueous stability and degradation profiles in their uncross-linked states and chemical cross-linking reagents arise toxicity concerns, which generally restrict the spectrum of their biomedical applicability. Here, the research goal is to photochemically cross-link collagen type I with rose bengal (RB) when subjected to green laser light and to investigate the effect of silk sericin-capped gold nanoparticles (S-AuNP) when incorporated into scaffolds on the cross-linking process and thus on the scaffold properties.

In this study, we investigate the electronic, optical, and thermoelectric properties of single and few layer [Formula: see text] in detail utilizing first-principles methods based on the density functional theory (DFT). Within the scope of both PBE and HSE06 including spin orbit coupling (SOC), the simulations predict the electronic band gap values to decrease as the number of layers increases.

It is regarded as a solution to avoid a risky anastomosis with the intent to reverse after the diseased colon is given time to recover. This reversal has been associated with a potential morbidity and mortality.

Here, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized upon exposure to nano-pulsed Nd-YAG laser irradiation in de-ionized water (PLAL) and functionalized with levan polysaccharide for assessing the anticancer efficacy of doxorubicin (DOX)-conjugated levan-capped AuNPs complexes to MCF-7 breast cancer cells. According to the physicochemical test results, the increments in levan amount enhanced the colloidal stability and the drug encapsulation efficiency (DEE) significantly. For the 10L-AuNP group having the highest levan amount (10 mg/mL levan), DEE was calculated as 92.

One of the important complications of ERCP is pancreatitis. Even though transient hyperamylasemia is a more common and benign situation, it must be distinguished from post-ERCP pancreatitis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransition metal boro-carbide (TM2BC) structures crystallize in the layered orthorhombic structure in their bulk phases. In this study, however, we find that TM2BC (TM = Cr, Mn) prefer a tetragonal (t) crystal structure in their monolayer phases due to the occurrence of strong sp2 bonds between the metal and B/C atoms instead of sp3 + sp2 bonds which exist in the orthorhombic phase. The calculated energy difference between the orthorhombic and the tetragonal structures based on density functional theory (DFT) is more than 1 eV per unit cell.

The main objectives of this study were to explore the suitability of the exopolysaccharide levan, biosynthesized by Bacillus subtilis, to aid in the formation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and to investigate the colloidal stability and in vitro biological activity of this biopolymer-AuNPs complex. AuNPs (mainly spherical, 8-10 nm-sized, and monodispersed) were successfully synthesized in levan concentrations up to 0.5% w/v (L-AuNP0.

In the present study, we introduce and reveal the structure, stability and electronic features of novel RhX (X: Cl, Br, I) monolayer systems within the framework of density functional theory. Phonon dispersion spectra and equilibrium molecular dynamics calculations confirm the stability of the phases studied at room and elevated temperatures.

Background: Firearm injuries are criminal events that may cause severe morbidity and mortality and concerned with Emergency Medicine and Forensic Medicine. The present study aims to evaluate the wound characteristics of the cases who presented to emergency services due to firearm injuries.
Methods: In this study, 213 patients who were 18 years of age or older who applied to the Sağlık Bilimleri University Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital Emergency Service with gunshot injury were included.
Aim: Acute appendicitis is one of the most common pathology requiring emergency operations, and if perforated, can cause morbidity and mortality. The serum bilirubin levels were studied to see whether an elevation predicted perforation.
Material And Methods: In a retrospective cohort study the medical files of 221 patients who were operated for acute appendicitis were reviewed.
Herein, an easy one-pot synthesis method for gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), involving only gold salt and sericin extracted from silkworm cocoon in the presence of ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation, was developed. Nanoparticle formation was confirmed by characteristic surface plasmon resonance peaks at 520-540 nm wavelengths, and the influence of silk sericin on enhancing the colloidal stability of AuNPs was confirmed. Transmission electron microscopy examination showed the average size (<10 nm) and size distribution decreased significantly with higher sericin concentration.

Upon doping of selected atoms, AlN and GaN monolayers can acquire magnetic properties, and their fundamental band gaps are modified by the localized gap states. Spin-polarized gap states broaden into bands at patterned coverage of adatoms, whereby half-metallic or magnetic semiconducting properties can be attained.

In this paper, the electronic and magnetic properties of an α-RuCl monolayer are investigated by combining first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. From first-principles calculations, we found that the spin configuration of FM corresponds to the ground state for α-RuCl, however, the other excited zigzag oriented spin configuration has an energy of 5 meV per atom higher than the ground state.
