Comparative evaluation of cyclosporine A/HPβCD-incorporated PLGA nanoparticles for development of effective ocular preparations.

To improve poor water solubility of cyclosporine A (CsA), hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) was incorporated into the nanoparticle formulation. Solid complexes of CsA with HPβCD in different ratios were prepared by the kneading method. CsA containing alone or in combination with HPβCD in poly-lactide-co-glycolide (P-CsA or P-CsA-HPβCD) nanoparticles were prepared by the emulsification solvent evaporation method.

Development and characterization of Cyclosporine A loaded nanoparticles for ocular drug delivery: Cellular toxicity, uptake, and kinetic studies.

Dry eye syndrome is a common disorder of the tear film caused by decreased tear production or increased evaporation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential effectiveness of Cyclosporine A (CsA) nanoparticles (NPs) for the treatment of inflammation of the eye surface. Topical CsA is currently the only and safe pharmacologic treatment of severe dry eye symptoms.

Chitosan delivery systems for the treatment of oral mucositis: in vitro and in vivo studies.

Oral mucositis is a frequent and potentially severe complication of radiation or chemotherapy for cancer. Associated with atrophy and ulceration of the oral mucosa is an increased risk of infection, and the most common pathogenic agent is Candida. Chitosan is an excellent candidate for the treatment of oral mucositis.

Prevalence of GB virus C/hepatitis G virus infection in pediatric patients receiving multiple transfusions in Southern Turkey.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of GB virus C (GBV-C) infection in pediatric patients receiving multiple blood transfusions in Turkey where HBV and HCV infections are common. Sera of a total of 148 children, of whom 85 had cancer and 63 hemoglobinopathies, were tested for GBV-C RNA and HCV RNA by RT-PCR and for antibodies to HBV and HCV. Demographic and clinical information as well as laboratory results were recorded for the patients (81 boys, 67 girls, aged 1-19 years).

Comparison between the use of adsorbed and aqueous immunotherapy material in Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus sensitive asthmatic children.

Background: dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der PI) is the major allergen which causes allergic asthma and perennial rhinitis. The extracts of Der PI may be used in treatment of patients who are unresponsive to pharmacological treatment and avoidance of allergens. The success of immunotherapy (IT) depends on the selection of appropriate patients and allergens as well as a regular follow up.

Peak expiratory flow in healthy Turkish children.

This study was conducted on 1359 healthy, non-smoking Turkish children (727M, 632F) with a mean age of 11.7 +/- 3.4 (6-17) years, in order to determine the normal values of peak expiratory flow (PEF) in Turkish children and to compare various peak-flow meters (PEFMs).

Serum copper, zinc and magnesium levels in children with enterobiosis.

Levels of serum copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and magnesium (Mg) were determined in the sera of 250 children aged between 6 and 13. Of these children, 180 were infected only with Enterobius vermicularis. The remaining 70 children were without parasitic or bacterial infection and made up the control group.
