The aim of this study was to determine the impact of aging on cardiometabolic risk of the syndrome by examining women who had previously been diagnosed to have PCOS or to be healthy in an unselected population in 2009.
Participants: Forty-one women with PCOS who were diagnosed and phenotyped according to the Rotterdam criteria and 43 age- and body mass index (BMI)-matched healthy women from the same unselected cohort.
The serum level of trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a gut microbiota metabolite associated with diabetes, cancer, inflammatory and neurological diseases, can be determined by the micro-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. However, we had problems obtaining accurate standard curves with the original kit protocol from Bioassay Technology Laboratory. We aimed to acquire proper standard curves by modifying the kit protocol in this study.

Background And Study Aim: Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (SuPAR), a soluble form of the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor, is a biomarker produced by macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, active T cells, endothelial cells, and circulating tumor cells. SuPAR is a novel biomarker showing altered inflammation in many inflammatory diseases. This study aims to investigate the SuPAR level in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and to evaluate the SuPAR level in active, and remission patients.

The cytokine interleukin-22 (IL-22) is produced by immune cells and closely linked to gut immunity, which is tightly controlled by its binding protein (IL-22BP). In this study, we aimed to assess whether IL-22/IL-22BP axis is altered in PCOS at baseline and in response to short-term oral contraceptive (OC) therapy.

Therefore, we aimed to determine the association between breast milk total ghrelin and nesfatin-1 levels and anthropometric measurements of infants who were small for gestational age (SGA).
Methods: 20 SGA and 20 appropriate for gestational age (AGA) infants were enrolled in the study.
Purpose: COVID-19 pandemic has far-reaching psychosocial implications for chronic health conditions. We aimed to investigate whether COVID-19 associated social isolation affects lifestyle and weight control in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Methods: We conducted an online survey involving 232 women with PCOS and 157 healthy controls on weight changes, physical activity, sleep and eating patterns using Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-18), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF).
Objective: To evaluate the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms and vitamin D levels in inactive hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers.
Study Design: A cross-sectional analytical study.
Place And Duration Of Study: From March to September 2017 at the Izmir Katip Celebi University (İKCU) Ataturk Training and Research Hospital, Izmir, Turkey.
Objective: In the present study, we aimed to investigate the role of the fasting serum levels of Anjiopoetın 2 - like protein (ANGPTL2), Anjiopoetın 8-like protein (ANGPTL8), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in the etiopathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and analyze the relationships between insulin resistance parameters.
Material And Method: The 90 individuals admitted to İzmir Katip Celebi University Hospital Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Obstetrics, and gynecology outpatient clinic were included in the study of similar ages and similar demographic characteristics. Forty-five women with diet-controlled GDM and 45 women with normoglycemic pregnancy were enrolled.
Background: Non-dipper blood pressure is defined by less than a 10% reduction in nighttime blood pressure, and it is associated with cardiovascular disease. Inflammation is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of both chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and non-dipper blood pressure pattern, and both diseases are associated with lower quality of life.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of non-dipper blood pressure pattern in patients with COPD.

Objectives: Prolonged air leaks following lung injury cause extended hospital stays. This study investigated the effect of nutritional supplements containing arginine, glutamine and β-hydroxy β-methyl butyrate, which were theoretically proven to accelerate wound healing, on air leak and wound healing parameters in a rat lung injury model.
Methods: Twenty-eight female rats were randomly divided into 4 groups.
Objective: In this study we aimed to evaluate whether there is a link between circulating 25-OH-D levels and molecular response in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
Material And Method: A total of 61 patients with CML (31 women, 30 men) were recruited in this cross-sectional study.
Results: Binary logistic regression analysis demonstrated that increased vitamin D levels were independently associated with molecular response in subjects with CML.
Objectives: This study was aimed to explore the effects of follistatin on cisplatin-induced renal dysfunction, histopathological changes, apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative damage in rats.
Background: Follistatin plays an important role in the developmental and regeneration processes of kidney by blocking the actions of activin, which is a member of transforming growth factor-β superfamily.
Methods: Twenty seven rats were separated into 4 equal groups: Control, Cp (cisplatin, 6 mg/kg, intrapertoneally (ip)), F1 (cisplatin + 1 µg/day follistatin ip for 4 consecutive days) and F4 (cisplatin + 4 µg/day follistatin ip single dose) groups.
Introduction: The mechanism of oxaliplatin (OXA) induced pulmonary toxicity is not fully understood.
Aim Of The Study: The present study was designed to investigate the pulmonary toxicity of OXA that has been reported in previous studies. Study design: animal experiments.

Objective: To determine whether vitamin D levels correlate with menopausal symptoms and female sexual functions.
Study Design: A cross-sectional study.
Place And Duration Of Study: Izmir Katip Celebi University Hospital, Izmir, Turkey, between February and October 2017.
Background: In this study, postoperative cardiac functions were observed in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery following preoperative administration of the anti-ischemic drug trimetazidine.
Materials And Methods: The study included a total of 50 CABG patients; 25 were administered with trimetazidine preoperatively and 25 did not receive trimetazidine. A retrospective evaluation was made of the parameters of age, gender, preoperative echocardiography (ECHO) results, cross-clamping durations, postoperative inotropic requirements, and postoperative 4-h troponin-I levels and the groups were compared.

Methods: IL-10, IL-17, TGF-, IFN-, IL-22, and IL-35 serum levels of allergic rhinitis (AR) patients were measured using ELISA method. Allergic sensitization was demonstrated by the skin prick test.
Purpose: This study was conducted to compare serum xenopsin-related peptide-1 (XP-1) levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and in healthy women and to determine the role of XP-1 levels in PCOS.
Methods: Forty patients with PCOS and 38 healthy women were included in the study and matched with age and body mass index. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), XP-1 and total testosterone levels of all participants were measured.
