Pomegranate is one of the most popular fruits worldwide, and it is important to maintain the overall quality and bioaccessibility of freshly squeezed pomegranate juices (PJS). The adverse effects of heat treatment on sensory properties and phytochemicals encourage the use of non-thermal processes in the juice industry. Hereby, the effects of high-pressure homogenization (HPH) (50, 100, and 150 MPa) on the physicochemical properties, antimicrobial activity, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant capacity of freshly-squeezed PJS from different genotypes were investigated.

In this article, we report the clinical presentation of four patients with IRIDA admitted to our clinic, including their laboratory values at admission and after oral and parenteral iron treatment, and the analysis of their mutation(s) in TMPRSS6 gene.
Case: Four patients from different families, aged between 3 and 14 years, two girls and two boys, two of whom were from consanguineous marriages, who were diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia in primary health care institutions and referred to our clinic because of inadequate response to oral iron treatment were included.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the rational effects of packing, which has seen reduced use after the introduction of fixators that perform the stabilization function-on rectum, bladder, and A point doses when used in conjunction with fixators.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on inoperable-cervical-cancer patients who underwent brachytherapy with tandem and ovoid at Kocaeli University Hospital between January 2023 and May 2024. Patients received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), followed by high-dose-rate brachytherapy with either standard or packed plans.
Aim: To evaluate the effect of 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor (5-ARI) treatment on prostate cancer detection by multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI).
Methods: We retrospectively collected data on 429 patients who underwent mpMRI before prostate biopsy in the Urology Department of Giresun University Training and Research Hospital between March 2018 and December 2021. The patients were categorized as those who had never been treated with 5-ARI (n=359) and those who were treated with 5-ARI for more than six months (n=70).

Background And Objectives: Bipolar electrocautery systems in neurosurgical procedures may induce thermal damage to adjacent tissues, especially neural tissues. Therefore, it is crucial to control thermal spread from the tips of bipolar forceps into adjacent tissues. The goal of this study was to compare the thermal damage induced in unintended adjacent tissues during coagulation with 6 different bipolar forceps.

Despite its growing importance, there is a lack of research investigating the underlying mechanisms through which love of life impacts the flourishing and well-being of individuals. For the first time, the present study examined the mediating roles of optimism and hope in the association between love of life and flourishing in Turkish youth.

The soluble forms of their receptors, functioning as decoy receptors, exhibit inhibitory effects. However, little is known about their regulation in severe bacterial and viral infections, which we aimed to investigate in this study.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the polymerization shrinkage of composite attachments and changes in attachment templates during bonding in clear aligner treatments.
Methods: A total of 24 extracted teeth were divided into 4 groups, and plaster models were digitized. Attachment templates were produced with beveled attachments on premolars and rectangular attachments on molars.
Background: There was no scientific evidence about the initial treatment of hypertonic saline solution (HSS) in acutely decompensated heart failure (ADHF).
Objectives: This study assessed the impact of using HSS along with a loop diuretic (LD) as the first diuretic treatment for ADHF, focusing on renal function, electrolyte levels, and clinical outcomes.
Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, 171 adult patients (93 females/78 males) with ADHF were included between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022.

Objective: To assess cognitive functions, determine serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentration in patients with MACS, and investigate the association between cognitive subdomains and BDNF.
Methods: We prospectively recruited 84 participants-28 patients with MACS, 28 patients with nonfunctional adrenal adenoma (NFAA), and 28 control subjects matched for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), visceral adiposity, and educational level.
Introduction: Sleep disturbances are being increasingly recognized in association with autoimmune encephalitis (AIE). We investigated the prevalence of sleep-related symptoms and polysomnographic features of patients with AIE and the long-term outcomes in these patients in a multi-center, prospective study from Turkey.
Methods: We prospectively evaluated patients with definite AIE in a common database including demographics, AIE-related and sleep-related symptomatology.
Background: The objectives of this study were to assess the preoperative and postoperative serum brain- derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in neonates undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects (CHD). Also to explore the relationship between changes in BDNF levels and the impact of perioperative factors including intraoperative body temperature, aortic cross-clamp time, perfusion time, operation time, inotropic score, vasoactive inotropic score and lactate levels.
Methods: Forty-four patients with CHD and 36 healthy neonates were included in the study.

Background: The Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale is a self-report scale for measuring alexisomia, defined as the difficulty in awareness and expression of somatic emotions or feelings. The scale is available in Japanese and Finnish versions. This research aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale.

An improved mechanistic understanding for MT-mediated immune evasion promises to lead to more effective combination therapeutic regimens. Herein, we identify the Hedgehog transcription factor, Gli2, as a key node of tumor-mediated immune evasion and immunotherapy resistance during MT.

Netrin-1 may be a promising biomarker candidate. We investigated netrin-1 expression in USC tissues and healthy endometrial tissues to determine its relevance to disease prognosis.

Due to their chemically stable structure, conventional water and wastewater treatment techniques such as coagulation, flocculation, and biological oxidation do not entirely remove these chemical substances. Therefore, before releasing them into the environmental receptor, these chemical substances must be transformed into harmless products or mineralized through advanced oxidation processes.

Literature on medical students' pursuit of neurosurgical careers in middle- and low-income countries are scarce. The aim of this research, conducted in Turkey with a middle-income economy, was to contribute insights relevant to medical education and neurosurgery across the world.

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the ability of the combination of fQRS-T and PLR routinely obtained on admission to identify STEMI patients at risk of I-CMP.
Background: The administration of propofol and methylene blue (MB) can be associated with the appearance of prolonged green urine discoloration, particularly in patients with heart failure (HF) concomitant with renal and liver dysfunction. Understanding the reasons behind this phenomenon is of clinical significance.
Case Summary: A 79-year-old woman with a history of HF experienced dyspnoea and persistent green urine discoloration for a week, leading to her hospitalization for acutely decompensated HF.
The ongoing threat of COVID-19 has highlighted the need for effective prophylaxis and convenient therapies, especially for outpatient settings. We have previously developed highly potent single-domain (VHH) antibodies, also known as nanobodies, that target the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein and neutralize the Wuhan strain of the virus. In this study, we present a new generation of anti-RBD nanobodies with superior properties.

We used RCAS/tv-a retroviruses and Cre recombinase to inactivate p53 and induce K27M in the native allele in a lineage- and spatially-directed manner, yielding primary mouse DMGs.
