Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a highly metastatic, aggressive, and fatal form of breast cancer. Patients presenting with IBC are characterized by a high number of axillary lymph node metastases. Recently, we found that IBC carcinoma tissues contain significantly higher levels of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) DNA compared to other breast cancer tissues that may regulate cell signaling pathways.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a crucial role in breast cancer initiation, promotion, and progression. Inhibition of antioxidant enzymes that remove ROS was found to accelerate cancer growth. Studies showed that inhibition of glutathione peroxidase-3 (GPX3) was associated with cancer progression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the clinical features and treatment outcomes of primary adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder, focusing on identifying key independent prognostic factors for patients.
  • Out of 3659 patients undergoing cystectomy, 192 had adenocarcinoma, with many diagnosed at advanced stages and notable lymph node involvement. Subtype analysis revealed that mucinous and signet-ring varieties showed poorer prognoses compared to others.
  • The findings indicated that postoperative radiotherapy significantly improved disease-free survival rates (61% vs. 37% without it) and local control, although distant metastasis remained a common cause of death, highlighting the importance of tumor stage and treatment type in patient outcomes.
