Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effectiveness of acupuncture in alleviating pain and improving function, range of motion, and quality of life in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS), compared to sham acupuncture.
  • A randomized controlled trial with 80 participants showed that the acupuncture group experienced significant improvements in all measured outcomes, including pain and range of motion, over the control group.
  • The findings suggest that acupuncture is a safe and effective non-invasive treatment option for SIS, with benefits lasting at least one month after treatment.

  • The study investigates the connection between 25-OH vitamin D levels, various inflammatory markers, and the severity of COVID-19.
  • Researchers divided patients into three groups based on the severity of their COVID-19 symptoms and measured their vitamin D levels and inflammatory parameters.
  • Results indicated no significant differences in vitamin D levels across groups, but higher inflammatory markers were found in severe cases, with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) identified as a key independent predictor of disease severity.

Objective: The purpose of the study is to explore the rehabilitation status of children with cerebral palsy (CP) and anxiety level of their caregivers during the Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Methods: Caregivers of children with CP who were being followed up in our outpatient CP clinic were contacted between May 28 and June 26, 2020. Two hundred and six caregivers who voluntarily agreed to participate were administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and were questioned about the rehabilitation status of their children.

Article Synopsis
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome involves pain, tingling, weakness, and vascular symptoms due to compression of nerves and blood vessels in specific areas of the thoracic outlet.
  • The main compression sites are the retropectoralis minor space, costoclavicular space, and interscalene triangle, which can make it hard to identify the exact location and appropriate treatment.
  • A case study of a 49-year-old woman shows she was initially diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome but found to have pectoralis minor syndrome, allowing her to be treated effectively with conservative methods instead of surgery.

Objectives: To investigate the characteristics of the patients who are clinically diagnosed with pes anserine tendinitis bursitis syndrome (PATBS), and to determine the sensitivity and specificity of clinical diagnose based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: Included in this cross-sectional clinical study were 156 patients who were evaluated based on the clinical presence or absence of PATBS. All patients underwent Q-angle measurement, knee osteoarthritis (OA) grading according to the Kellgren-Lawrence classification, and medial joint space measurement, and their cartilage thickness, and any periarticular and intraarticular knee pathologies were recorded from an assessment of knee MRIs.

  • The study investigates the effectiveness of pregabalin for treating myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), which is viewed as a central sensitivity issue rather than just a local pain problem.
  • A total of 40 female patients were divided into two groups: one received pregabalin with exercise therapy, while the other received exercise therapy alone, with evaluations conducted at multiple stages.
  • The results showed that the group receiving pregabalin had significantly better improvements in pain levels and quality of life compared to the exercise-only group, indicating pregabalin's effectiveness in managing MPS.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the demographics, causes, and risk factors related to low back pain (LBP) in 106 children and adolescents who visited a clinic from 2014-2018.
  • Out of the participants, most were diagnosed with non-specific LBP, whereas others had conditions like lumbar disc herniation and scoliosis; only a few required surgical intervention, while conservative treatments were mainly effective.
  • The findings highlight that low back pain is common among youth, primarily due to mechanical issues rather than serious underlying conditions, contrary to popular beliefs.

Spasticity is the most common motor disturbance in cerebral palsy (CP). Lockdown in the COVID-19 outbreak has profoundly changed daily routines, and similarly caused the suspension of spasticity treatment plans. Besides, the delay in botulinum toxin (BoNT) injection, which is important in the management of focal spasticity, led to some problems in children.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the regenerative effects of alpha lipoic acid on the recovery of sciatic nerve crush injury (SNCI) in rats.

Design: This was a randomized, experimental, and sham-controlled study. The sciatic nerves of 28 rats in four groups were traumatized for 60 secs: G1, sham operated + saline; G2, SNCI + saline; G3, SNCI + alpha lipoic acid 50 mg/kg/day; and G4, SNCI + alpha lipoic acid 100 mg/kg/day.

Background: Meralgia paresthetica (MP) is an entrapment mononeuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN), in which conservative treatment options are not always sufficient.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided LFCN injection in the management of MP by comparing with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy and sham TENS therapy.

Study Design: A prospective, randomized, sham-controlled study.

Article Synopsis
  • Pectoralis minor syndrome (PMS) involves compression of the neurovascular bundle at the retropectoralis minor space and can result from various factors like repetitive activities, injury, and muscle spasticity.
  • A case study is presented of a 19-year-old male with spastic hemiparesis diagnosed with PMS, treated with ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections and stretching exercises.
  • The patient’s symptoms improved significantly, highlighting that spasticity in the pectoralis minor can impact the neurovascular structures, and botulinum toxin injections are an effective treatment option for PMS in post-stroke patients.
