Background: Hexavalent chromium (CrVI) is known to be a potentially hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic contaminant in humans and other animals, whose toxicity is associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential protective effect of chlorogenic acid (CGA), which has known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, on potassium dichromate (PDC)-induced acute hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity in rats.

Methods And Results: Thirty-six Wistar albino rats were treated with CGA (10, 20, or 40 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) and/or PDC (15 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) as a single dose.

Increasing evidence supports the view that oxidative stress and brain demyelination play an important role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant with neuroprotective effects. This study aimed to assess the effect of resveratrol on schizophrenia-like behaviors and possible brain demyelination induced by MK-801, an N-methyl-D-aspartate glutamate receptor antagonist, and the underlying neuroprotective mechanism.

Experimental studies indicate that MK-801 causes organ injury in schizophrenic mice testes although it is molecular mechanism has not been clearly defined. In this study, we investigated the probable protective effect of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) against MK-801- induced testicular toxicity in mice. In total, 24 Balb/C male mice were divided into 4 equal groups: the animals in the control group (vehicle treated) were intraperitoneally given 10 mL/kg/day saline solution, the animals in the experiment groups were intraperitoneally given 1 mg/kg/day MK-801 alone, 100 mg/kg/day NAC alone and MK-801 by 1 mg/kg/day for 14 days.

1. The aim of the study was to determine the effects of dietary supplementation with sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) exogenous donor, and N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME), a NO inhibitor, on growth performance, some biochemical parameters and ovarian primordial and primary follicles of quail. 2.

The application of stereologic techniques to the analysis of the nervous system has greatly contributed to the evaluation of the normal and pathological anatomy of the aging brain. Currently, the hippocampus still holds secrets about the aging process. Experimental researches on hippocampus morphology may contribute to the future researches.

The knowledge of branching and variations of the coeliac artery is clinically important, especially in the surgical operations and non-surgical treatments. Moreover, the chinchillas abdominal region have been used as a model in some surgical experimental researches. In this frame, we have aimed to explain the branching of this artery in the chinchillas detailedly.

Aquaporin (AQP) 1 and AQP 4 are members of the aquaporin water channel family that play an important role in reabsorption of water from the renal tubular fluid to concentrate urine. Studies of renal AQPs have been performed in human, rodents, sheep, dogs and horses. We studied nephron segment-specific expression of AQP 1 and AQP 4 using immunohistochemical staining on paraffin sections of bovine kidneys.

Systematic sampling using the Cavalier's principle provides accurate, efficient, cheap, and simple quantitative estimates of objects within neuroanatomical structures like the cerebellum. We identified and isolated the Purkinje cell layer and used this information to extrapolate the stereological technique to estimate the total number of Purkinje cells and volume on light microscope in rabbits' cerebella. Volumes of the cell populations in the cerebellum have not been estimated previously.
