Sesquiterpene lactones are specialized plant metabolites with promising pharmacological activities. These metabolites are characteristic marker compounds for the aerial parts of . Numerus sesquiterpene lactones have been isolated from ragweed; however, there is no information on their bioproduction and quantification throughout the life cycle of the plant.

The unmet need for highly effective, naturally derived products with minimal side effects results in the over-popularity of ever-newer medicinal plants. In the middle of 2010, products containing cannabidiol (CBD), one of the special metabolites of , started to gain popularity. For consumers and healthcare providers alike, the legal context surrounding the marketing of CBD products is not entirely clear, and the safety of using some products is in doubt.

Article Synopsis
  • Ole-gum-resin extracts (BSEs) are used as food supplements, particularly for managing osteoarthritis, and their quality is tested by measuring specific acid contents using methods like HPLC and titration.
  • A study analyzed 14 different BSE products from commercial sources, comparing their acid content and quality to a reference standard, revealing that only two products met the quality criteria for key compounds (KBA and AKBA).
  • The findings indicated that while total acid levels were acceptable, 10 extracts contained unexpected citric acid (6-11%), suggesting possible adulteration to manipulate titration results, marking a first-time discovery of this practice in industrial products.

Dronabinol, a natural cannabinoid, and its semi-synthetic derivative, nabilone, are marketed as medicines in several countries. The aim of our work was to systematically evaluate the frequency of adverse events related to dronabinol or nabilone treatment compared to placebo. Scientific databases were searched for placebo-controlled clinical studies of patients receiving either dronabinol or nabilone therapy with placebo control groups.

Cannabis use is associated with known cardiovascular side effects such as cardiac arrhythmias or even sudden cardiac death. The mechanisms behind these adverse effects are unknown. The aim of the present work was to study the cellular cardiac electrophysiological effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on action potentials and several transmembrane potassium currents, such as the rapid (I) and slow (I) delayed rectifier, the transient outward (I) and inward rectifier (I) potassium currents in rabbit and dog cardiac preparations.

A library of pinane-based 2-amino-1,3-diols was synthesised in a stereoselective manner. Isopinocarveol prepared from (-)-α-pinene was converted into condensed oxazolidin-2-one in two steps by carbamate formation followed by a stereoselective aminohydroxylation process. The relative stereochemistry of the pinane-fused oxazolidin-2-one was determined by 2D NMR and X-ray spectroscopic techniques.

The use of cannabidiol (CBD) in electronic cigarettes is widespread. Previously, it was reported that CBD is partly transformed to THC in case smoking as a cigarette, however, the pyrolysis of this compound has not been assessed extensively. The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of temperature on the composition of pyrolysis products of CBD.

Cannabis use is associated with cardiovascular adverse effects ranging from arrhythmias to sudden cardiac death. The exact mechanism of action behind these activities is unknown. The aim of our work was to study the effect of cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol and 11-nor-9-carboxy-tetrahydrocannabinol on cellular cardiac electrophysiological properties including ECG parameters, action potentials, hERG and I ion channels in HEK cell line and in rabbit and guinea pig cardiac preparations.
