Worldwide, stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability in adults. Alteplase is the only approved treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and results in an improvement in a third of treated patients. Most studies evaluated the post-alteplase haemorrhagic transformation of brain infarction as a homogeneous entity but we evaluated the predictors of each subtype of haemorrhagic transformation of brain infarction.

Introduction: Greater side-to-side asymmetry can indicate impaired skill, reduced power production, and an increased risk of injury. Bilateral differences highlight the presence of asymmetries that should be assessed to understand their impact on both injury risk and performance enhancement.

Objective: This study aimed to assessment muscle activation and bilateral asymmetry in major trunk and shoulder muscles during a two-armed kettlebell swing exercise.

The current study aimed to assess the efficacy of duloxetine in reducing pain and improving the quality of life of individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP). An extensive literature search was conducted to identify relevant studies that examined the efficacy of duloxetine in CLBP management. The primary objective of the present study was to assess the role of duloxetine use on pain levels, as well as improvements in quality of life, using validated instruments.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study examines how the composition and thermal treatments influence the structural and electrical characteristics of sprayed thin films of MoWO with varying molybdenum content (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20).
  • - Techniques like FE-SEM, EDX, and FTIR were used to analyze the films, revealing important vibrational modes and significant changes in surface morphology due to the Mo dopant.
  • - Results indicate that the conduction mechanism shifts at about 393K, affected by temperature and Mo concentration, highlighting MoWO's potential for future applications in photonic and optoelectronic devices.

Background: Migraine is a prevalent headache disorder with a significant impact on the quality of life. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness and safety of erenumab, mAb targeting the CGRP receptor, in treating chronic (CM) and episodic (EM) migraine in clinical practice Kuwait, providing region-specific insights to treatment options.

Method: This was a prospective observational cohort study of patients diagnosed with EM or CM treated with erenumab.

Article Synopsis
  • * Using a sEMG system, researchers measured electrical muscle activity in six dominant arm muscles and found significant differences in muscle activation across different phases (preparation, execution, and follow-through) of the stroke.
  • * Results indicated that some muscles, like the anterior deltoid and biceps brachii, were more active during execution, while others, such as the posterior deltoid and triceps brachii, showed increased activity during follow-through, highlighting the usefulness of electromyography in understanding muscular dynamics in sports. *

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers measured muscle co-activations and joint stiffness in 27 participants during walking and analyzed the data using statistical methods like ANOVA and correlation tests.
  • * Results showed that hip and ankle joint stiffness increased with faster walking, with varying correlations between muscle co-activations and walking speed, providing insights that could inform gait retraining and injury prevention.

Objectives: The main risk factor for poor graft outcomes is refractory acute rejection and its consequences. In this study, we compared the efficacy of antithymocyte globulins versus other antirejection strategies in reversing refractory acute graft rejection after living donor renal transplant.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 745 patients who received living-donor kidney transplants and experienced acute rejection episodes at Mansoura Urology and Nephrology Center in Egypt over the past 20 years.

Objective: Vaccination hesitance for the COVID-19 booster dosage among hemodialysis patients is an important barrier in reducing morbidity and mortality linked to COVID-19 infection. Hence, this study aimed to explore the predictors of the third (booster) dose of COVID-19 vaccine intention among CKD patients on hemodialysis from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Methods: This study was a multi-center cross-sectional study conducted at four dialysis centers in KSA from 13 February 2022 to 21 June 2022.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The objective was to determine whether standardized, intraoperative urethral measurement improves retropubic mid-urethral sling (RPMUS) positioning and if the intraoperative position remains stable at 2 weeks postoperatively.

Methods: Participants undergoing a RPMUS were randomized to mid-urethral placement as per usual surgical care (no Foley catheter measurement, no-FCM) vs urethral mid-point Foley catheter measurement (FCM). The primary outcomes were RPMUS location as determined by 2D and 3D ultrasound 2 weeks postoperatively (as percentage from urethral meatus - relative to the urethral length) and intraoperatively following the RPMUS placement.

Background: Workplace burnout is a state of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization of others (DP), and low personal accomplishment (PA) owing to workplace stressors. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of burnout and its associated factors among surgical specialists in Kuwait.

Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed the prevalence of burnout among 489 surgeons in practice at Kuwait Ministry of Health (MOH).

Background: Spasticity is a common complication of many neurological diseases and despite contributing much disability; the available therapeutic options are limited. Peripheral magnetic stimulation is one promising option. In this study, we investigated whether peripheral intermittent theta burst stimulation (piTBS) will reduce spasticity when applied directly on spastic muscles.

Background: Albeit growing technical advances in the design of hemodialysis catheters, intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) still represents an utmost clinical challenge to the health-care workers (HCWs). Data regarding the influence of the culprit organism on the scenario of CRBSI in the literature are extremely lacking. Thereby, this research was carried out.

The purpose of this study was to quantify the coordination between agonist and antagonist elbow muscles during squash backhand crosscourt shots in adult female players. Ten right-handed, international-level, female squash players participated in the study. The electrical muscle activity of two right elbow agonist/antagonist muscles, the biceps brachii and triceps brachii, were recorded using a surface EMG system, and processed using the integrated EMG to calculate a co-activation index (CoI) for the preparation phase, the execution phase, and the follow-through phase.

Introduction Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic disease with clinically heterogeneous outcomes. Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common complication of SLE. LN impacts clinical SLE outcomes both directly, in the form of target organ damage, and indirectly, through the adverse effects of immunosuppressive therapy.

Background: Visual field defects (VFD) usually do not show improvement beyond 12 weeks from their onset. It has been shown that repetitive presentation of a stimulus to areas of residual vision in cases of visual field defect can improve vision. The counterpart of these areas in the brain are the partially damaged brain regions at the perilesional areas where plasticity can be enhanced.

The renal complications of dengue virus infection cover a wide spectrum of manifestations from acute kidney injury to glomerular injury with nephritic/nephrotic syndrome. Majority of cases remain symptom free and show full recovery. We present a 61-year-old previously healthy male who developed a pyrexial illness with haemolytic anaemia that was diagnosed on the basis of a positive serological test as a case of dengue fever.

Article Synopsis
  • Pregnancy-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (P-aHUS) is a serious condition that poses a high risk of mortality and can lead to end-stage renal disease in over 50% of untreated patients, often presenting postpartum.
  • The syndrome is linked to a disruption in the complement alternative pathway, causing damage to blood vessel linings and mimicking other postpartum conditions like severe pre-eclampsia and thrombotic microangiopathy.
  • Diagnosis may involve genetic testing and assessment for anti-CFH antibodies, but supportive care and plasmapheresis are crucial, with eculizumab recommended for effective treatment from the point of diagnosis.
