Optimising reaction conditions in flasks for performances in organic light-emitting devices.

A method for correlating reaction conditions with device performance was developed by combining Design-of-Experiments and machine-learning strategies in multistep device fabrication processes. This method allowed the "from-flask-to-device" optimisation of a macrocyclisation reaction yielding a mixture of methylated []cyclo--phenylenes, and a crude raw material was directly applied to the fabrication of Ir-doped organic light-emitting devices spin-coating. The method succeeded in eliminating energy-consuming and waste-producing separation and purification steps during device fabrication.

Clinicopathologic findings of splenic marginal zone lymphoma with gallbladder involvement that progressed to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in a dog.

A 12-year-old spayed female Dalmatian presented with acute vomiting and anorexia. The clinicopathological and imaging abnormalities included icterus, biliary obstruction, and multiple diffuse splenic hypoechogenic nodules. Cholecystectomy was performed to remove the obstruction, followed by liver biopsy and splenectomy.

16S rRNA nanopore sequencing for rapid diagnosis of causative bacteria in bovine mastitis.

The rapid identification of specific bacterial pathogens in bovine mastitis is crucial for appropriate antimicrobial treatment. Sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons is a proven, useful strategy for diagnosing bacterial infections. In this study, the use of 16S rRNA analysis with nanopore sequencer for the rapid identification of causative bacteria in bovine mastitis, was evaluated.

Tier-grown Expansion of Design-of-Experiments Parameter Spaces for Synthesis of a Nanometer-scale Macrocycle.

A method to find optimum synthetic conditions was devised by combining a data-driven empirical model with a traditional mechanistic model. In this method, an experimental parameter space was empirically obtained by Design-of-Experiments optimizations with machine-learning supplements and was strategically expanded by examination of the mechanistic model of the reaction paths. An extra tier grown on the original 3×3×3 parameter space succeeded in allocating an optimum reaction condition in the expanded 3×3×4 parameter space.

Hepatosplenic lymphoma and visceral mast cell tumor in the liver of a dog with synchronous and multiple primary tumors.

An 11-year-old spayed female American Cocker Spaniel was presented with a 4-week history of anorexia and a 1-week history of abdominal distension. Clinicopathologic and imaging abnormalities included intra-abdominal hemorrhage, granular lymphocytes (GLs) in abdominal fluid smears, a splenic mass, and hepatomegaly with diffuse multiple hypoechogenic nodules. Based on the cytologic, histologic, and immunohistochemical evaluation of the spleen and liver, the diagnosis was hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL) of GLs.

Synthesis of a Negatively Curved Nanocarbon Molecule with an Octagonal Omphalos via Design-of-Experiments Optimizations Supplemented by Machine Learning.

A saddle-shaped nanocarbon molecule was synthesized, which revealed the existence of negative Gauss curvatures on a >3-nm molecular structure possessing 192 π-electrons. The synthesis was facilitated by a protocol developed with Design-of-Experiments optimizations and machine-learning predictions, and spectroscopy and crystallography were used to reveal the saddle-shaped structure of the molecule. Solution-phase analyses showed the presence of dimeric assembly, and crystallographic analyses revealed the stacked dimeric structures.

A case of feline large granular lymphocyte lymphoma with complete remission and long survival by surgical resection and adjuvant nimustine administration.

A 7-year-old spayed female Scottish Fold cat presented with a 4-week history of anorexia, weight loss and vomiting. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a jejunal mass and a slightly enlarged jejunal lymph node. A fine-needle aspiration of the mass revealed many round cells with multiple small intracytoplasmic magenta granules.

Objective: Palpitation, or the sensation of rapid or irregular heartbeats, is common in menopausal women; however, the precise underlying mechanisms are unknown. We aimed to investigate factors associated with palpitation in middle-aged women.

Methods: Medical records of 394 women aged 40 to 59 years (108 premenopausal, 85 perimenopausal, and 201 postmenopausal) were analyzed cross-sectionally.

This report describes the cases of two Miniature Dachshunds who were suspected to have immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) and were treated with immunosuppressive therapy. However, progression of anemia, increases in C-reactive protein (CRP) and total-bilirubin (T-Bil) levels, splenomegaly, transition to nonregenerative anemia, and thrombocytopenia occurred after the treatment. Splenectomy and bone-marrow aspirations were performed subsequently.

Perpendicularly oriented 2D perovskite thin films prepared using the bar-coating method and DMSO additive.

A 2D perovskite incorporating an amine moiety with a carboxy group exhibited orientation changes as the amount of DMSO additive varied. The degree of perpendicular orientation was increased by optimizing the amount of DMSO additive, while using the bar-coating method. Moreover, film thickness and the ratio of perpendicular orientation exhibited a positive correlation.

Urothelial cells play essential roles in protection of urine exudation and bacterial invasion at the urothelial mucosa, so that defect or damage of urothelial cells associated with urinary tract diseases may cause serious problems. If a sufficient number of functional urothelial cells are prepared in culture and transplanted into the damaged urothelial lesions, such technology may provide beneficial effects to patients with diseases of the urinary tract. Here we found that human adult dermal fibroblasts were converted into urothelial cells by transducing genes for four transcription factors, FOXA1, TP63, MYCL and KLF4 (FTLK).

This study investigated the links between the severity of vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and the dietary consumption of a variety of nutrients. A cross-sectional analysis of the first-visit records of 262 women aged 40-65 years was conducted. Histone H3 lysine 9 (H3K9) methylation is unevenly distributed in mammalian chromosomes. However, the molecular mechanism controlling the uneven distribution and its biological significance remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that JMJD1A and JMJD1B preferentially target H3K9 demethylation of gene-dense regions of chromosomes, thereby establishing an H3K9 hypomethylation state in euchromatin.

Normal/high-fat milk consumption is associated with higher lean body and muscle mass in Japanese women aged between 40 and 60 years: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Milk is known to contain various nutrients that may have health benefits for postmenopausal women who are at an increased risk of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases. We investigated the association between normal/high- and low-fat milk consumption and body composition in Japanese women aged 40 to 60 years.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used the baseline data collected in a previous study that examined the effects of a dietary supplement on a variety of health parameters in 85 Japanese women aged 40 to 60 years.

Canine primary hypoplasia of the portal vein (PHPV) is a microscopic malformation of the hepatic vasculature. The prevalence, clinical signs, and clinicopathological findings of PHPV in dogs are unclear, because there are few reports concerning PHPV in the veterinary literature. This retrospective study reviewed clinical records and liver biopsy data from 48 dogs with hepatic disease that were examined at a private veterinary hospital in Japan between April 2011 and March 2014 to determine the prevalence of PHPV among dogs that underwent liver biopsy and to determine the clinical and clinicopathological findings of PHPV in dogs.

Effect of soy lecithin on fatigue and menopausal symptoms in middle-aged women: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

Background: Lecithin is a complex mixture of phospholipids which compose lipid bilayer cell membranes. Lipid replacement therapy, or administration of phospholipids for the purpose of repairing the dmaged cell membranes, had been shown to alleviate fatigue. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of soy lecithin on fatigue in middle-aged women, as well as other menopausal symptoms and various health parameters.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of, and risk factors associated with, the feeling of unattractiveness in peri- and postmenopausal women.

Methods: The records of 351 women aged 40-76 who enrolled in a health and nutrition education program at a menopause clinic were analyzed in a cross-sectional manner. Perceptions of unattractiveness were estimated according to responses for the item 'feeling less attractive than before' on the Menopausal Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire.
