Background: Diversity in hemodynamics of adult congenital heart disease necessitates a case-by-case selection of appropriate surgical and anesthetic options. However, previous case reports regarding the management of laparoscopic surgery in adult patients with congenital heart disease are limited.
Case Presentation: A 72-year-old man who underwent a laparoscopic right colectomy for colon cancer had a residual ventricular septal defect and right ventricular outflow tract obstruction despite post-repair of tetralogy of Fallot.
General anesthesia could induce amnesia, however the mechanism remains unclear. We hypothesized that suppression of neuronal ensemble activity in the hippocampus by anesthesia during the post-learning period causes retrograde amnesia. To test this hypothesis, two experiments were conducted with sevoflurane anesthesia (2.

We present two patients, with reduced ejection fraction, who underwent remimazolam anesthesia for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair of the mitral valve with the MitraClip system. In case 1, the patient's vitals were stable throughout the surgery.

However, the best method to reverse warfarin for elective LVAD conversion surgery with massive bleeding remains unclear. We report the case of a 39-year-old Japanese man who was administered a four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) as warfarin reversal when he underwent conversion surgery from paracorporeal LVAD to implantable LVAD.

This study aimed to elucidate the detailed EGCG sulfation process to better understand its phase II metabolism, a process required to maximize its health benefits. Results show that kinetic activity of sulfation in the human liver and intestinal cytosol is 2-fold and 60- to 300-fold higher than that of methylation and glucuronidation, respectively, suggesting sulfation as the key metabolic pathway.

She presented recurrence of heart failure due to severe stenotic and moderate regurgitant degeneration of the implanted mitral bioprosthesis. Considering her comorbidities and left ventricular systolic dysfunction, our heart valve team eventually decided to perform percutaneous transseptal transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve replacement instead of surgical redo mitral valve replacement, using a 26 mm SAPIEN 3 valve (Edwards Lifesciences) via trans-femoral approach.

Hence, we aimed to evaluate the safety pharmacological effects of a chlorogenic acid (CGA)-related compound contained in coffee, 5--caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA), and its metabolites, 5--feruloylquinic acid (5-FQA), caffeic acid (CA), and ferulic acid (FA). Langendorff perfused heart assay, electrophysiological assay of acute rat hippocampal slices, and in vitro Magnus assay of gastrointestinal tracts were conducted at 1-100 µM.

Design: A retrospective study.
Setting: A single university hospital.
The signaling of stem cell factor (SCF) through its receptor Kit is known to play an important role in regulating cutaneous melanogenesis. In the course of UVB-induced pigmentation, the expression of membrane-bound SCF by epidermal keratinocytes is upregulated at an early phase and subsequently activates neighboring melanocytes via their Kit receptors. In order to identify effective skin-lightening materials, we screened botanical extracts to determine their abilities to diminish Kit expression in melanocytes.

Specific coffee components that inhibit the hypotensive effect of chlorogenic acid and the physiologic mechanisms underlying the effects of coffee without these components were investigated. One component, hydroxyhydroquinone (HHQ), inhibited the hypotensive effects of chlorogenic acid in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).
