Background: The lipoprotein particle number (PN) profile may be a better marker of cardiovascular risks than standard serum lipid measurements. The aim of this study was to analyze the lipoprotein PNs in Japanese children with abdominal obesity and to determine the subclass profile.
Methods: The participants included 164 Japanese children (79 boys and 85 girls) aged 9-13 years.
Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) was the first hypothalamic hormone isolated that stimulates pituitary thyrotropin (TSH) secretion. TRH was also later found to be a stimulator of pituitary prolactin and distributed throughout the brain, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreatic β cells. We previously reported the development of TRH null mice (conventional TRHKO), which exhibit characteristic tertiary hypothyroidism and impaired glucose tolerance due to insufficient insulin secretion.

Energetic ion beam experiments with major space radiation elements, H, He, O, Si and Fe, have been conducted to investigate the radiation shielding properties of composite materials. These materials are expected to be used for parts and fixtures of space vehicles due to both their mechanical strength and their space radiation shielding capabilities. Low Z materials containing hydrogen are effective for shielding protons and heavy ions due to their high stopping power and large fragmentation cross section per unit mass.

The Act mandates requests, instructions and orders for business suspension and shortened business hours, as well as stay-at-home requests. These measures limit freedom of movement and establishment, guaranteed rights under the Japanese Constitution.

Considering that the application of conventional risk scores has contextual limitations, new strategies are needed to develop such a model. Here, we set out to develop and validate a comprehensive risk prediction model for stroke recurrence in AIS patients with AF.

Norgestomet has been widely used in the livestock industry to promote the synchronization of estrus in cattle and increase pregnancy rates. However, highly reproducible synthetic methods for Norgestomet have been rarely reported.

Case: A 62-year-old woman with a medical history of nail-patella syndrome (NPS) presented with chronic right shoulder pain. Physical examination revealed that her right shoulder had a restricted range of motion. Radiograph of the shoulder revealed arthritic changes with glenohumeral joint space narrowing, inferior humeral head osteophytes, and posterior glenoid wear.

DyP-type peroxidases are subclassified into three classes: classes P, I and V. Based on its genome sequence, , eubacteria, has two genes presumed to encode class V DyP-type peroxidases and two class I genes.

Objective: Low molecular weight compounds that reduce the expression of MMP13 at the mRNA level might serve as disease-modifying osteoarthritis (OA) drugs (DMOADs). The objective of this study was to identify a candidate DMOAD that targets MMP13 expression.
Design: High-throughput screening was performed to identify compounds that suppress inflammatory cytokine-induced MMP13 expression.
The recent global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to vaccination in many parts of the world for herd immunity, and as vaccination has progressed, several rare adverse events have been reported. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) has been reported to be one of the rare adverse events caused by vaccination with MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine and influenza vaccine. In addition, ITP has been reported to occur in a small number of cases associated with the COVID-19 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine.

In a retrospective case series of 100 eyes of 99 treatment-naïve PNV patients, their clinical records were reviewed and the corresponding multimodal imaging studies were analyzed. We assessed areas of choriocapillaris filling delay which overlapped with dilated outer choroidal vessels, choroidal neovascularization (CNV), and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) atrophy.

By using a novel small-molecule inhibitor, we show that the enzymatic activity of inositol hexakisphosphate kinases (IP6K) is essential for phosphate regulation in vivo. IP6K inhibition suppressed XPR1, a phosphate exporter, thereby decreasing cellular phosphate export, which resulted in increased intracellular ATP levels.

Purpose: To analyse the alterations in the choroidal structure of eyes with commotio retinae due to blunt-force trauma.
Methods: This retrospective study included 51 eyes of 50 patients who underwent swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) during their initial visit and throughout their clinical course between March 2013 and February 2020.
Main Outcomes And Measures: This study focused on four choroidal measures: comparison of central choroidal thickness (CCT) between the injured and contralateral eyes immediately after injury, changes in the CCT, ratio of choroidal luminal and stromal properties in the injured eye during the clinical course and change in the suprachoroidal structure of the injured eye.
In schizophrenia, social cognitive impairment is considered one of the greatest obstacles to social participation. Although numerous measures have been developed to assess social cognition, only a limited number of them have become available in Japan. We are therefore planning this evaluation study for social cognition measures in Japan (ESCoM) to confirm their psychometric characteristics and to promote research focused on social cognition.

This hypothesis prompted us to investigate vortex vein hemodynamics by studying videos of indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) in a retrospective case series of 295 eyes with pachychoroid spectrum diseases. In the early phase of the video-ICGA, pulsatile vortex venous flow was observed in 76 eyes (25.

Purpose: Surgery in elderly patients with esophageal cancer is challenging due to high mortality and limited survival. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of curative esophagectomy in elderly patients with esophageal cancer.
Methods: This study included 77 and 112 patients with esophageal cancer aged ≥ 70 and 40-64 years, respectively, who underwent R0 esophagectomy between January 1998 and December 2016.
Purpose: Herpes simplex diffuse endotheliitis with accompanying feathery infiltration is difficult to diagnose due to corneal findings that are similar to fungal keratitis. This case series reports on the effectiveness of using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to diagnose herpes simplex diffuse endotheliitis that is similar in appearance to fungal keratitis.
Methods: After extracting corneal smear sample DNA, samples were then applied to two independent PCR assays, a qualitative multiplex 24-pathogen strip PCR assay, and a quantitative real-time PCR assay of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
