[Results of in vitro chemosensitivity assays: human tumor clonogenic and scintillation assay].

The authors reviewed their experiences to date with chemosensitivity testing of 629 tumors by human tumor clonogenic assay (HTCA) and of 199 tumors by scintillation assay (SA). HTCA and SA were both performed using a double-layer-soft-agar system with continuous exposure of cells to one concentration of standard anticancer drugs. Overall, 60% of specimens in HTCA and 58% in SA produced significant growth in vitro.

[A resected case of collision tumor of hepatocellular carcinoma and primary liver rhabdomyosarcoma].

Primary liver sarcoma is rare and especially its coexistence with hepatocellular carcinoma is extremely rare. We have collected eight cases of their coexistence in the literatures. The patient was a 62-year-old male complaining of right hypochondralgia and general malaise for about one month.

Signet ring cell carcinoma of the breast.

A rare case of signet ring cell (SRC) carcinoma of the breast occurring in a 51-year-old female is presented. She was first admitted under the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma. Incidentally, a right breast tumor was detected and double cancer was thus suspected clinically.

[Bone structure in aseptic necrosis of the femoral head by light microscopy, contact microradiography, and fluorescent microscopy --comparing with osteoarthritis and rapidly destructive coxarthrosis].

In order to obtain further information of the pathological changes and bone structure of aseptic necrosis (AN), the present author carried out histological investigation on 20 femoral heads removed by prosthesis or total hip replacement from 18 patients. Both decalcified and undecalcified sections were investigated by microscopy, contact microradiography (CMR) and fluorescent microscopy. Schemata of individual cases were drawn to know the relationship between femoral head deformity and bone reactivity.

Studies on experimentally induced hydrosalpinges in rabbits--experimental approach for tubo-microsurgery.

Hydrosalpinx proved macroscopically and microscopically which was quite similar to that observed in the damage human fallopian tube could be induced by ligation of the rabbit fallopian tube. Where ligatures have been placed on two places of the fallopian tube, hydrosalpinx can be induced in 100 percent of cases if ligation is done securely. About 1-2 weeks after ligation, no change of ciliated cells was observed in the mucosal fold in SEM findings, nor was there much change in the external shape of non-ciliated cells even though hydrosalpinx was induced.

Neo-kyotorphin (Thr-Ser-Lys-Tyr-Arg), a new analgesic peptide.

The amino acid sequence of a newly isolated pentapeptide, neo-kyotorphin from bovine brain was synthetically verified to be Thr-Ser-Lys-Tyr-Arg corresponding to the C-terminal portion of hemoglobin alpha-chain. The synthetic neo-kyotorphin showed the dose-dependent analgesia in mice which was approximately equal to that of Leu-enkephalin.

Improved procedure for histological identification of osteoid matrix in decalcified bone.

Several improvements on the original method of Yoshiki and coworkers for histological identification of osteoid matrix in decalcified bone are described in this report. The first, fixation of bone with neutral buffered formalin, a popular and stable fixative, should produce better tissue morphology and ensure easy handling in any laboratory. The second is a simple test for aged cyanuric chloride.
