Background And Aim: A caudal limb of the internal mammary vein (IMV) can be used as an additional venous drainage route in free flap transfer. However, there remains the possibility that unrecognised occlusion of the retrograde IMV occurs in the early postoperative period due to non-physiologic flow, thus affecting venous drainage. There are no reports regarding the postoperative patency rates of the anastomosed retrograde IMV.

Thus, it is the most frequently used osteotomy for jaw deformities. Its main intraoperative and postoperative complications are massive bleeding, atypical fractures, inferior alveolar nerve paralysis, and relapse.

The authors developed a series of operative procedures to prevent venous reflux. This is probably the first report on valvuloplasty for small subcutaneous veins (diameter, <1 mm).

For patients with such a condition, a conventional treatment is mandibular advancement by sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO). This procedure has problems such as insufficient advancement, instability of jaw position, and postoperative relapse.

In the present study, to pursue the possibility that PAI-1 could be a therapeutic target in the management of malignancy, SK-216, a specific PAI-1 inhibitor, was orally administered to wild-type mice that were subcutaneously implanted or intravenously injected with either PAI-1-secreting Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) or PAI-1-nonsecreting B16 melanoma cells. The systemic administration of SK-216 was found to reduce the size of subcutaneous tumors and the extent of metastases, regardless of PAI-1 secretion levels from the tumor cells.

Since congenital curved nail of the fourth toe (CNFT) was reported by Iwasawa et al in 1991, there have been only 19 cases of CNFT in 6 reports, which were from Japan and Taiwan. We performed surgery on 4 patients with CNFT and report here good results. There has been no previous detailed report on surgical treatment for this condition.

If hypospadias is severe as in the scrotal type and perineal type, penile curvature sometimes cannot be corrected by dorsal midline plication alone. In addition to resection of the urethral plate, ventral grafting becomes necessary for insufficient skin and subcutaneous tissue.

Syndromic craniosynostosis is known to be associated with various obstructive respiratory disorders, including sleep apnoea. We performed early midfacial distraction in 11 syndromic craniosynostotic patients with obstructive respiratory apnoea and obtained good results. There were four patients with Crouzon syndrome, three patients with Pfeiffer syndrome and four patients with Apert syndrome.

A lateral supramalleolar flap, nourished by the superficial cutaneous branch of the perforating branch of the peroneal artery, has been described as one of the most reliable methods for reconstructing this difficult region. Although the deep descending branch of the perforating branch of the peroneal artery has a tiny cutaneous perforator, a flap based on this perforator has not been described.

We compared the utility of these two examination methods for patients with suspected extremity lymphoedema and for those in whom surgical treatment of lymphoedema was under consideration.

Purpose: A low ratio of serum eicosapentaenoic acid to arachidonic acid (EPA/AA) has been associated with coronary artery disease. We retrospectively examined serum concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids in patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) and in non-atherosclerotic patients.
Methods: From April 2011 to March 2012, serum EPA/AA was retrospectively examined in 33 consecutive outpatients with ASO complicated by intermittent claudication and 21 outpatients with hypercholesterolemia without ASO as controls.
The involvement of valgus hindfoot deformity in hallux valgus deformity was confirmed in a rheumatoid arthritis case with a destructive valgus hindfoot deformity. Correction of severe valgus, calcaneal lateral offset, and pronated foot deformity instantly normalized hallux valgus deformities postoperatively. Thus, careful hindfoot status evaluation is important when assessing forefoot deformity, including hallux valgus, in rheumatoid arthritis cases.

Serial changes of lymphatic function before and after lymph node dissection and risk factors for secondary lymphedema are important indicators.
Methods: A prospective cohort observational study was conducted with 100 consecutive gynecologic cancer patients who underwent pelvic lymph node dissection.
Background: The fastest growing age group globally is older adults, and preventing the need for long-term nursing care in this group is important for social and financial reasons. A population approach to diet and physical activity through the use of social services can play an important role in prevention. This study examined the effectiveness of a social health program for community-dwelling older adults aimed at introducing and promoting physical activity in the home at each individual's pace, helping participants maintain good dietary habits by keeping self-check sheets, and determining whether long-standing unhealthy or less-than-ideal physical and dietary habits can be changed.

An anatomical study using cadaveric Le Fort III osteotomy models was performed to investigate the causes of untoward fractures that might induce devastating complications.
Methods: The study sample consisted of 30 cadavers (60 sides).
The efficacy of one-stage artificial dermis and skin grafting was tested in a nude rat model. Reconstruction with artificial dermis is usually a two-stage procedure with 2- to 3-week intermission. If one-stage use of artificial dermis and split-thickness skin grafting are effective, the overall burden on patients and the medical cost will markedly decrease.

Effective therapy for chronic radiation injuries, such as ulcers, is prone to infection. Stiffness is expected since the therapeutic radiation often involves wider and deeper tissues and often requires extensive debridement and reconstruction, which are not sometimes appropriate for elderly and compromised hosts. Autologous adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) are highly yielding, forming relatively elderly aged consecutive 10 cases, 63.

Occurring once every 4 years, this event took place for the first time in Melbourne in 2000, followed with great success in Paris in 2004 and Toronto in 2008. This year, for the first time, it will be held in Asia.

Results of a clinical study in adults with second-degree burn wounds suggest that application of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) may reduce time to second-intention healing and result in a more cosmetically acceptable scar.
