Quantification of Albumin and ɣ-Globulin Concentrations by Multivariate Regression Based on Admittance Relaxation Time Distribution (mrARTD).

Albumin and γ-globulin concentrations in subcutaneous adipose tissues (SAT) have been quantified by multivariate regression based on admittance relaxation time distribution (mraRTD) under the fluctuated background of sodium electrolyte concentration. The mraRTD formulates P = Ac + Ξ (P: peak matrix of distribution function magnitude ɣP and frequency τP, c: concentration matrix of albumin cAlb, γ-globulin Gloc, and sodium electrolyte Nac, A: coefficient matrix of a multivariate regression model, and Ξ: error matrix). The mraRTD is implemented by two processes which are: 1) the training process of A through the maximum likelihood estimation of P and 2) the quantification process of cAlb, Gloc, and Nac through the model prediction.

Immune-Modified Glasgow Prognostic Score Predicts Therapeutic Effect of Pembrolizumab in Recurrent and Metastatic Head and Neck Cancer.

Background: Previously, we proposed that the immune-modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (imGPS), which adds the lymphocyte count to the mGPS, is helpful as a prognostic marker for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In this study, we investigated the imGPS as a marker for the therapeutic effect of pembrolizumab in treating recurrent and metastatic head and neck cancer (RMHNC).

Methods: This study included RMHNC patients who were treated with pembrolizumab from December 2019 to April 2024.

A prospective study on the enhancement of surgical safety in robotic surgery: The BirdView camera system.

Purpose: To investigate the surgical safety and benefits of using the BirdView camera system with a wide field of view in robotic surgery for rectal cancer in a prospective clinical study.

Methods: This study included 20 consecutive patients who underwent robotic surgery at our institution between the years 2022 and 2023. The primary endpoint was perioperative safety, which was defined as the occurrence of adverse events, including other organ injuries and malfunctions, caused by the BirdView camera system.

iPSC-derived megakaryocytes and platelets accelerate wound healing and angiogenesis.

Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is prepared by concentrating platelets in autologous blood, shows efficacy in chronic skin wounds via multiple growth factors. However, it exhibits heterogeneity across patients, leading to unstable therapeutic efficacy. Human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived megakaryocytes and platelets (iMPs) are capable of providing a stable supply, holding promise as materials for novel platelet concentrate-based therapies.

Risk factors for proximal and distal aortic events after type A acute aortic dissection.

Objectives: Type A acute aortic dissection (TAAAD) is a life-threatening condition often requiring emergency surgery, with approximately 30% of patients needing reoperation. This study aimed to identify predictors of long-term aortic events from early postoperative computed tomography (CT) examinations.

Methods: A total of 336 cases underwent TAAAD surgery at two institutions between 2002 and 2018.

A rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is an abnormal tract between the rectum and vagina, which requires surgical intervention in many cases. Although there are many different therapeutic approaches for RVF depending on the patient's' condition, there are no established guidelines for the care of RVF. This study aimed to evaluate the results of laparoscopic colostomy in advanced cancer patients with RVF, and the safety and efficacy of this surgery.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases; however, its role in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unclear.

Aim: To investigate the hypothesis that the Lp(a) levels are altered by various conditions during the acute phase of ACS, resulting in subsequent cardiovascular events.

Methods: From September 2009 to May 2016, 377 patients with ACS who underwent emergent coronary angiography, and 249 who completed ≥ 1000 d of follow-up were enrolled.

The Hildenbrandiales, a typically saxicolous red algal order, is an early diverging florideophycean group with global significance in marine and freshwater ecosystems across diverse temperature zones. To comprehensively elucidate the diversity, phylogeny, biogeography, and evolution of this order, we conducted a thorough re-examination employing molecular data derived from nearly 700 specimens. Employing a species delimitation method, we identified Evolutionary Species Units (ESUs) within the Hildenbrandiales aiming to enhance our understanding of species diversity and generate the first time-calibrated tree and ancestral area reconstruction for this order.

A case of robot-assisted resection for cecum cancer with anomalous venous confluence.

There are many reports on the positional relationship between the ileocolic artery and superior mesenteric vein (SMV). However, there have been no reports of anomalous venous confluence in the ileocecal vessel area. A 69-year-old man was diagnosed with cecal cancer on a preoperative examination of a lung tumor.

A case of MCA arising from ICA: a case report.

Background: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) and central vascular detachment are very important procedures in surgery for colorectal cancer. Preoperative and intraoperative assessments of the anatomy of major colorectal vessels are necessary to avoid massive bleeding, especially in endoscopic surgery. A case with a rare anomaly in which the middle colic artery (MCA) and ileocolic artery (ICA) had a common trunk is reported.

Background: The TactiFlex SE catheter (TFSE, Abbott) with a contact force (CF) sensor and a laser-cut irrigated-tip has recently become available but lacks a lesion quality marker. This study aimed to explore distinctions in lesion characteristics between the TFSE and the ThermoCool SmartTouch SurroundFlow catheter (STSF, Biosense Webster), which utilizes a porous irrigated tip, and to assess the most effective application settings for the TFSE.

Methods: Lesions were generated using varying settings of radiofrequency power (30-50 W), CF (10-20 g), application duration (10-40 s), and catheter orientation (perpendicular or parallel) in an ex vivo porcine model.

Great Toe Tip Reconstruction after Severe COVID-19 Using Hemi-pulp V-Y Advancement Flap: A Case Report.

"COVID toe," one of the extrapulmonary disorders of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), may result in toe necrosis. In this case, we successfully reconstructed a severe COVID-19-induced defect in the great toe by using an innervated hemi-pulp V-Y advancement flap. A 48-year-old woman was diagnosed with fulminant myocarditis due to COVID-19 and received intensive care.

We experienced a case of papillary fibroelastoma of aortic valve, which had been located for preoperative 12 years without any symptom. We could assess tumor growth rate of 0.17 mm/year.

Changes in mandibular position during midface distraction in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in mandibular position during midface distraction. Midface distraction was performed in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis to increase upper airway volume. Although this treatment resulted in changes in occlusion, the concomitant changes in mandibular position were poorly understood.

Controlling the reactivity of La@C by reduction: reaction of the La@C anion with alkyl halide with high regioselectivity.

Endohedral metallofullerenes have excellent redox properties, which can be used to vary their reactivity to certain classes of molecules, such as alkyl halides. In this study, the thermal reaction of the La@-C anion with benzyl bromide derivatives at 110 °C afforded single-bonded adducts - with high regioselectivity. The products were characterized by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and visible-near infrared spectroscopy.

What are the key risk factors of keloid formation after repair of syndactyly of the toe?

Cardiac rehabilitation in a heart-failure patient using customized "cardiac support net" treatment: a case report.

At our hospital, we are conducting the "Clinical Study of a Patient-Specific Cardiac Support Net for Dilated Cardiomyopathy (jRCTs042180025)", a multi-facility clinical study of a customized cardiac support net (CSN). Here, we describe the cardiac rehabilitation (CR) of a heart failure (HF) patient after CSN treatment. The patient was a 65-year-old man who exhibited dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) because of left ventricular non-compaction; his New York Heart Association status was class III.
