Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of a 30-second additional observation using either linked color imaging (LCI) or narrow band imaging (NBI) for detecting adenomas in the right-sided colon, finding both methods improve detection rates.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 2,000 cases, comparing the performance of LCI and NBI after initial white light imaging.
  • Results showed no significant difference in adenoma detection between the two imaging techniques, but both significantly enhanced the adenoma detection rate (ADR) in the right colon.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on creating an automated system using machine learning to accurately define the demarcation line (DL) between cancerous lesions and normal tissue in magnifying narrow-band imaging (M-NBI).
  • An unsupervised machine learning method was employed, involving image segmentation, feature extraction, clustering, and boundary detection, to evaluate performance with 23 M-NBI images.
  • Results showed that the system's identified DLs were similar to those determined by experienced endoscopists, suggesting it could aid in training novice doctors and enhance the skills of seasoned professionals.

Background And Aim: High-grade dysplasia (HGD) and T1 lesions are accidentally resected by cold snare polypectomy (CSP) and the characteristics, and follow-up of them has not been reported. In this study, we analyzed the histopathological findings and recurrence of them.

Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective-cohort study.

Purpose: For rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) ≤ 10 mm, endoscopic resection is a standard treatment. However, there is no consensus whether additional surgery should be performed for patients at risk of lymph node metastasis (LNM) after endoscopic resection. The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of endoscopic resection and additional surgery of rectal NETs, thereby clarify the characteristics of cases with LNM.

Introduction: The number of colonoscopy (CS) for the elderly is increasing. There are only a few reports focusing on CS among the very elderly aged ≥ 90-y. We aimed to analyze the efficacy of CS and of colorectal cancer (CRC) for patients aged ≥ 90-y.

Background: Vonoprazan (VPZ) has the potential to prevent delayed bleeding and promote ulcer healing after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) similar to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the outcomes of VPZ-treated patients after ESD and compared the efficacy and feasibility in preventing a delayed bleeding and in healing an artificial ulcer after ESD between the VPZ and PPI therapies.

Methods: This was a prospective, observation study in 11 Japanese medical institutions.

Backgrounds And Aims: Recently, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have become widely used for preventing thromboembolism. However, postoperative hemorrhage (POH) is a major complication associated with endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for colorectal lesions. In this multicenter study, we analyzed the incidence of POH after EMR associated with DOACs and explored the associated risk factors.

Background/aims: Gastric-type differentiated adenocarcinoma (GDA) of the stomach is a rare variant of gastric cancer that is highly infiltrating and exhibits early metastasis. However, the endoscopic and pathological features of "early-stage" GDA remain unknown. The aim of this study is to characterize early-stage GDA.

The aberrant expression or alteration of microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) contributes to the development and progression of cancer. In the present study, the functions of miR-96-5p in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were investigated. It was identified that miR-96-5p expression was significantly upregulated in primary HCC tumors compared with their non-tumorous counterparts.

Backgrounds: Magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging (ME-BLI) for diagnosis of early gastric cancer (EGC) is as effective as magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI). However, there are different EGCs in microstructure visualization between ME-BLI and ME-NBI. This study aimed to clarify the pathological features of the EGCs, in which microstructure visualization was different between ME-NBI and ME-BLI.

Disrupted cell polarity is a feature of epithelial cancers. The partitioning defective 3 (PAR-3) protein, a key component of the PAR complex that regulates the polarization of cells, is involved in tight junction formation at epithelial cell-cell contacts. Our previous study detected a homozygous deletion of the PAR-3 gene in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell lines and frequent copy number loss of the PAR-3 gene in primary ESCC.

. The aim of this study was to evaluate the endoscopic recognition of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) using four different methods (Olympus white light imaging (O-WLI), Fujifilm white light imaging (F-WLI), narrow band imaging (NBI), and blue laser imaging- (BLI-) bright). We retrospectively analyzed 25 superficial ESCCs that had been examined using the four different methods.

Background And Study Aims: Linked color imaging (LCI) is a new image-enhanced endoscopy technique using a laser light source to enhance slight differences in mucosal color. The aim of this study was to compare the usefulness of LCI and conventional white light imaging (WLI) endoscopy for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Background: Blue laser imaging (BLI) is a new image-enhanced endoscopy technique that utilizes a laser light source developed for narrow-band light observation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of BLI for the diagnosis of early gastric cancer.

Methods: This single center prospective study analyzed 530 patients.

Epigenetic changes as well as genetic changes are mechanisms of tumorigenesis. We aimed to identify novel genes that are silenced by DNA hypermethylation in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We screened for genes with promoter DNA hypermethylation using a genome-wide methylation microarray analysis in primary HCC (the discovery set).

EVI1 (ecotropic viral integration site 1) is one of the most aggressive oncogenes associated with myeloid leukemia. We investigated DNA copy number aberrations in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines using a high-density oligonucleotide microarray. We found that a novel amplification at the chromosomal region 3q26 occurs in the HCC cell line JHH-1, and that MECOM (MDS1 and EVI1 complex locus), which lies within the 3q26 region, was amplified.

DNA copy number aberrations in human biliary tract cancer (BTC) cell lines were investigated using a high-density oligonucleotide microarray. A novel homozygous deletion was detected at chromosomal region 7p21.3 in the OZ cell line.

Peritoneal mesothelioma presents difficulty in early diagnosis and establishment of standard treatment. We report a case of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma treated effectively with cisplatin and gemcitabine. A 53-year-old man, presenting with abdominal fullness and massive ascites was first admitted to our hospital in April, 2006.
