Background: Advances in precision medicine in Nigeria suggest improving genomics education and competency among healthcare practitioners to facilitate clinical translation. Due to the scarcity of research in this area, this study aimed to assess Nigerian medical students' perceptions about their preparedness to integrate precision medicine into their future clinical practice.

Methods: This was an institution-based cross-sectional study of medicine and surgery students in their clinical years attending the two fully accredited colleges of medicine in Lagos, Nigeria, between April and October 2022 using an adapted tool administered via Google Forms.

Bud tip progenitors (BTPs) in the developing lung give rise to all epithelial cell types found in the airways and alveoli. This work aimed to develop an iPSC organoid model enriched with NKX2-1+ BTP-like cells. Building on previous studies, we optimized a directed differentiation paradigm to generate spheroids with more robust NKX2-1 expression.

Introduction: BATHE is a consultation model mnemonic that stands for Background, Affect, Trouble, Handling, and Empathy. It is gaining fame in medicine because it offers person-centered care in time constrained setting and does not interfere with the physicians' ability to see large number of patients in a given day. We investigated the satisfaction scores of patients with chronic illnesses using BATHE model and the usual care (Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan, SOAP) model in a busy family medicine clinic.

Electrode materials play an important role on the electrocatalytic properties of immobilized biocatalysts. In this regard, achieving direct electronic communication between the electrode and redox sites of biocatalysts eliminates the need for additional electron transfer mediators for biocatalytic applications in fuel cells and other electrochemical energy devices. In order to increase electrocatalytic currents and power in fuel cells and metal-air batteries, conductive carbon-nanostructure-modified large surface area electrodes are quite useful.

Background: Typhoid perforation ileitis is a serious complication of typhoid fever, a common and unfortunate health problem in a resource-poor country like Nigeria. Following bowel perforation, treatment is usually by simple closure or bowel resection and anastomosis after adequate aggressive fluid resuscitation and electrolyte correction. Postoperatively, some of these patients do require management in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on account of sepsis or septic shock and to improve survival.

A rapid optical microarray imaging approach for anticancer drug screening at specific cancer protein-protein interface targets with binding kinetics and validation by a mass sensor is reported for the first time. Surface plasmon resonance imager (SPRi) demonstrated a 3.5-fold greater specificity for interactions between murine double minute 2 protein (MDM2) and wild-type p53 over a nonspecific p53 mutant in a real-time microfluidic analysis.

Background: The spinal route of analgesia has consolidated its place as a major modality in the management of both acute and chronic pain. The search for ideal additives to local anaesthetic agents to prolong the analgesic effects poses a challenge to the anaesthetists. Neostigmine, an anticholinesterase, presents a novel approach to providing analgesia.

Purpose: This hospital-based study was carried out to assess the common causes of blindness in Ibadan, the largest city in the southwestern part of Nigeria, and to strengthen the primary eye care approach to control and reduction of cases of blindness in the community.

Methods: Following Hospital Ethical Board approval and informed consent of participants, a prospective study was performed in which 1,544 consecutive patients with bilateral or unilateral blindness seen between January and December 2003 at the Ring Road State Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, were evaluated for causes of blindness. Visual acuity was measured with an illuminated Snellen chart placed 6 meters away from the participants.
