Functional imaging techniques play a major role in the study of brain activation by monitoring the changes in blood flow and energy metabolism. In order to interpret functional neuroimaging data better, the existing mathematical models describing the links that may exist between electrical activity, energy metabolism and hemodynamics in literature are thoroughly analyzed for their advantages and disadvantages in terms of their prediction of available experimental data. Then, these models are combined within a single model that includes membrane ionic currents, glycolysis, mitochondrial activity, exchanges through the blood-brain barrier, as well as brain hemodynamics.

The goal of this paper is to design experiments that confirm the evidence of cognitive responses in functional near infrared spectroscopy and to establish relevant spectral subbands. Hemodynamic responses of brain during single-event trials in an odd-ball experiment are measured by functional near infrared spectroscopy method. The frequency axis is partitioned into subbands by clustering the time-frequency power spectrum profiles of the brain responses.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared the effects of intravenous fentanyl alone (Group F) and intravenous fentanyl with bupivacaine infiltration (Group FB) on patients' hemodynamic responses during skull pin insertion in elective craniotomy procedures, involving 120 ASA I-II patients.
  • - Both groups showed a significant decrease in heart rate (HR) compared to baseline after skull pin insertion, but there was no notable difference in HR between the two groups.
  • - Mean arterial pressure (MAP) in Group FB was significantly lower at both 1 and 5 minutes post-insertion compared to Group F, indicating that while both methods effectively suppressed hemodynamic responses, the bupivacaine did not provide extra benefits over fent

Since 1965, Turkey has followed on anti-natalist population policy and made significant progress in improving sexual and reproductive health. This paper presents a critical review of the national reproductive health policies and programmes of Turkey and discusses the influence of national and international stakeholders and donors on policy and implementation. While government health services have played the primary role in meeting sexual and reproductive health needs, international donor agencies and national non-governmental and other civil society organisations, especially universities, have played an important complementary role.

Introduction: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are popularly prescribed for treating depression. With a few exceptions, these psychotropic medications are not approved by aeromedical regulatory authorities for use by aviators. Since SSRIs have the potential for impairing performance and causing drug-drug interactions, the prevalence of SSRIs in pilot fatalities of civil aviation accidents was evaluated.

We propose a new analysis method to extract the motility information from the electrogastrogram signal that has been recorded at a higher sampler rate than the conventional approaches. This technique utilizes a fourth order Butterworth bandpass filter in extracting the 50-80 cycles per minute (cpm) activity that was previously noted to represent the spike activity range of the cutaneous signals of dogs. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analyses have been applied to the processed data to compare the detection performance of our fEGG technique to the conventional approaches that use the slow wave as the reference.

Antibodies to infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) cross-react with turkey coronavirus (TCV) in immunofluorescence assay (IFA) indicating that IBV and TCV may share an amino acid sequence similarity. To determine its extent, the gene encoding the nucleocapsid (N) protein of TCV was amplified by reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) from RNA purified from intestines of embryos of turkeys infected with various TCV isolates and from allantoic fluid of chicken embryos infected with IBV M41 strain, the obtained N genes were cloned, sequenced and compared with known sequences of N genes of five IBV strains. The primers for amplification were designed from the genome of IBV PCR products were obtained only from two of eight TCV isolates tested.
