Objective: This study aimed to clarify perceptions of the transition from pediatric to adult care for patients with childhood-onset epilepsy in Japan.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive study design was used. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients with childhood-onset epilepsy who had transitioned to adult care attending a tertiary hospital's adult outpatient care unit specializing in treating epilepsy.

MRL.Fas(lpr/lpr) mice, a model for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and arthritis in humans, have a Fas mutation that results in spontaneous development of systemic autoimmune diseases and a short life span. Half of them die by 5-6 months of age due to massive progression of systemic autoimmune diseases, such as lupus nephritis.

Deletions in the DAP12 gene in humans result in Nasu-Hakola disease, characterized by a combination of bone fractures and psychotic symptoms similar to schizophrenia, rapidly progressing to presenile dementia. However, it is not known why these disorders develop upon deficiency in DAP12, an immunoreceptor signal activator protein initially identified in the immune system. Here we show that DAP12-deficient (DAP12(-/-)) mice develop an increased bone mass (osteopetrosis) and a reduction of myelin (hypomyelinosis) accentuated in the thalamus.
