Salmonella enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- sequence type 34 (ST34) has recently become a global concern for public and animal health. The acquisition of mobile genetic element ICEmST, which contains two copper tolerance gene clusters, cus and pco, influences the epidemic success of this clone. Copper is used as a feed additive in swine at levels that potentially lead to selection pressure for Enterobacteriaceae; however, it remains unclear whether the copper tolerance system of ICEmST functions in vivo.

This retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study of 41 healthy volunteers and 34 patients with retinal diseases included imaging data acquired using a prototype swept-source OCT system. EZ en face images were generated from OCT raster scan volumes based on OAC, followed by denoising and binarization to quantify the percentage of EZ structural normality or abnormality relative to the total imaging area.

Study Design: A cross-sectional, observational study.
Methods: Twenty-nine eyes of 29 adult volunteers were examined.
Background: Lung transplantation is a vital option for patients with end-stage lung disease. However, it faces a significant challenge due to the shortage of compatible donors, which particularly affects individuals with small chest cavities and pediatric patients. The novel approach of cadaveric lobar lung transplantation is a promising solution to alleviate the donor shortage crisis.

The specifics of conducting PPI are likely to differ when involving different groups. Family/informal carers for those with health conditions or disabilities have a lot to contribute to research, but instances of their involvement have yet to be reviewed.

This retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study included 10 eyes of healthy volunteers and 4 eyes of patients with representative nAMD. Novel scan patterns and variable interscan time analysis were utilized to measure the flow parameter, a surrogate marker of blood flow velocity, by vessel diameter within different depths.

While severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) typically induces pneumonia in even healthy individuals, it can also infect the transplanted lungs of LTx recipients, potentially leading to graft dysfunction. Despite the prevalence of COVID-19 pneumonia in LTx recipients, data on its characteristics and associated risk factors remain limited.

To investigate the occurrence and present forms of PMMoV and quantitative relations to norovirus GII and rotavirus A (RVA) in surface waters, 147 source water samples were collected from 21 drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) in Japan between January 2018 and January 2021, and the concentrations of viruses in suspended and dissolved fractions were measured using real-time RT-PCR. PMMoV was detected in 81-100 % of samples in each sample month and observed concentrations ranged from 3.

Accordingly, we conducted a retrospective study to examine the influence of HLA mismatch and donor-specific antibodies (DSA) on short-term outcomes and early-phase post-LTx complications.
Method: HLA antigen or eplet mismatch in LTx patients at Tohoku University Hospital from 2018 to 2023 was determined, and DSA was measured on admission for surgery to identify preformed DSA and at weeks 4 to 12 post-LTx for de novo DSA, respectively.
A novel scanning protocol, ammonite scan, is proposed for widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and relative retinal blood flow velocity imaging in the human retina using variable interscan time analysis (VISTA). A repeated circle scan using a 400 kHz swept-source was employed to achieve an interscan time of 1.28 ms.

There is an increasing demand for additional analysis regarding the efficacy and safety of after the initial series of mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in Japanese transplant recipients.
Method: In this open-label, nonrandomized prospective study carried out at Tohoku University Hospital, Sendai, Japan, LTx recipients and controls received third doses of either the BNT162b2 or the mRNA-1273 vaccine, and the cellular and humoral immune responses were analyzed.
Background: Poor health-related quality of life (HRQL) at the registration for lung transplantation is related to waitlist mortality. We investigated the relationship between 1-year change in HRQL and subsequent outcomes in patients waitlisted for lung transplantation.
Methods: In a 5-year longitudinal study, we analyzed the factors related to waitlist mortality in 197 lung transplant patients registered on the Japan Organ Transplant Network.
This study provides the first comprehensive investigation of the residual concentrations of eight classes of antimicrobial agents (AMs, 20 compounds) in 13 swine wastewater treatment facilities in Japan. These facilities implemented the aerobic activated sludge (AS) or its alternative methods. The maximum concentrations before treatment were found at the level of 7100, 6900, 6000, 3600, 3400, and 1400 µg/L for tilmicosin, oxytetracycline (OTC), chlortetracycline, lincomycin , sulfamethoxazole, and trimethoprim, respectively.

Methods: Fifty-eight patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) who had a single-hemifield visual field defect and 44 age-matched healthy subjects were enrolled. Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) was measured with swept-source OCT.
Background: Glaucoma is multifactorial, but the interrelationship between risk factors and structural changes remains unclear. Here, we adjusted for confounding factors in glaucoma patients with differing risk factors, and compared differences in structure and susceptible areas in the optic disc and macula.
Methods: In 458 eyes with glaucoma, we determined confounding factors for intraocular pressure (IOP), central corneal thickness (CCT), axial length (AL), LSFG-measured ocular blood flow (OBF), which was assessed with laser speckle flowgraphy-measured mean blur rate in the tissue area (MT) of the optic nerve head, biological antioxidant potential (BAP), and systemic abnormalities in diastolic blood pressure (dBP).
Rotavirus is a major cause of gastroenteritis among infants and children. In this study, nested PCR assays were developed to amplify partial regions of the VP7, VP4, and VP6 genes of (RVA) for amplicon-based Illumina MiSeq sequencing to investigate RVA genotypes in environmental water samples. Eight sets of inner primers were first designed and screened for use in the nested PCR assays, and four sets of them could produce amplicons.

We purchased 37 faucets from the market and analyzed the leaching of cadmium, mercury, selenium, lead (Pb), arsenic, hexavalent chromium, boron, zinc (Zn), copper, manganese, and nickel. The leaching tests were performed with and without a conditioning treatment, that simulated approximately 1-month intermittent use of faucets on weekdays, and the results were compared to estimate the changes in metal leaching during the use of faucets.
