Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 50 patients with end-stage renal disease measured inflammatory markers (hs-CRP and IL-6), albumin levels, and body mass index before and three months after undergoing dialysis, with results indicating that hs-CRP levels were notably higher in the HD group compared to CAPD.
  • * The findings suggest that patients undergoing hemodialysis experience a greater inflammatory burden, as indicated by higher hs-CRP

Article Synopsis
  • Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is a genetic generalized epilepsy syndrome that is generally well-controlled, but long-term outcomes can vary due to related personality traits and psychiatric disorders; quality of life (QoL) information in adolescents with JME is limited.
  • This study involved 50 participants aged over 11 years, who were assessed using specific quality of life questionnaires (QOLIE-AD-48 for adolescents and QOLIE-31-P for adults) and screened for psychiatric disorders, to understand the impact on their overall quality of life.
  • Results showed that while the overall QoL scores were fair for both adults (62.29) and adolescents (69.71), specific areas such

Article Synopsis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a serious and progressive autoimmune condition that can affect joints and cause other health issues; Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to autoimmune disorders and may play a role in the disease.
  • A study in Eastern India examined 80 newly diagnosed RA patients to explore the relationship between serum vitamin D levels, HDL cholesterol, and disease activity, measured by DAS28 ESR score.
  • Results showed that many participants had vitamin D deficiency, and there was a significant inverse correlation between vitamin D and DAS28 ESR, as well as with HDL cholesterol levels, indicating that higher disease activity may be associated with lower vitamin D and HDL levels.

Hashimoto encephalopathy presents with a myriad of neuropsychiatric features in the background of elevated antithyroid antibodies and it may or may not be associated with Hashimoto thyroiditis. It is a diagnosis of exclusion. Here, we present the case of a hypothyroid woman in her 30s, with a 5-year history of chronic progressive gait ataxia along with hand and head tremor, inattention and electroencephalogram (EEG) suggestive of interictal epileptiform discharges without any clinical seizures.

There is a pressing clinical need for thrombolytic agents that can effectively disaggregate arterial thrombi in acute ischemic stroke without significantly increasing the risk of bleeding. This pilot study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an adjunctive therapy to intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA or alteplase). A randomized, open-label, blinded assessor pilot study was conducted.
