Outcome of transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy with endonasal augmentation in acute versus post-acute dacryocystitis.

Objective: To study the outcomes of transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy (TCL-DCR) with endonasal augmentation in acute versus post-acute dacryocystitis and compare it with external DCR in post-acute settings.

Methods: A prospective, randomised study was conducted in 90 adult cases of Acute dacryocystitis. All the patients were started on systemic antibiotics and a 4 mm × 4 mm osteotomy was created using TCL-DCR.

Inhibition of Notch signaling in macrophages is known to reduce inflammation, however, its role in regulating vascular hyporeactivity in sepsis is unknown. Thus we aimed to evaluate the effect of sepsis on vascular Notch signaling. Polymicrobial sepsis was induced by caecal ligation and puncture (CLP) in mice.

Intra-abdominal propylene suture fragment leading to complete small bowel obstruction: A case report.

Introduction: Propylene sutures are non-absorbable sterile surgical sutures, which when present intra-abdominally act as a foreign body leading to adhesion formation. Post-operative adhesions are a common cause of bowel obstruction, with complete closed loop obstruction presenting as a surgical emergency.

Case Details: A 66-year-old man who had undergone a laparotomy for bowel obstruction two years back, presented to our emergency department with features of complete bowel obstruction.

Massive Retinal Gliosis in Microphthalmic Globe With Cyst Masquerading as a Neoplasm.

We report a rare case of a bilaterally blind, 33-year-old male, who presented with rapidly progressive, painless swelling in the right orbit for two months, in the absence of ocular trauma. Suspecting an intraocular neoplasm, a contrast-enhanced MRI (CE-MRI) orbit was performed, which was suggestive of a right-sided superomedial eccentric soft-tissue lesion with bilateral rudimentary globes associated with cyst, hypoplastic optic nerves, and focal areas of calcification. Diffusion-weighted MRI demonstrated diffusion restriction and yielded an indeterminate value of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC).

Calcium signaling cascades differentially regulate PGF-induced myometrial contractions in water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis).

This study unravels the differential involvement of calcium signaling pathway(s) in PGF-induced contractions in myometrium of nonpregnant (NP) and pregnant buffaloes. Compared to the myometrium of pregnant animals, myometrium of NP buffaloes was more sensitive to PGF as manifested by changes in mean integral tension (MIT) and tonicity. In the presence of nifedipine, myometrial contraction to PGF was significantly attenuated in both NP and pregnant uteri; however, mibefradil and NNC 55-0396 produced inhibitory effects only in uterus of pregnant animals, thus suggesting the role of extracellular Ca influx through nifedipine-sensitive L-type Ca-channels both in NP and pregnant, but T-type Ca channels seem to play a role only during pregnancy.

Clinical Presentation and Management Strategies in Intraorbital Foreign Bodies.

The authors present a retrospective, observational case study of seven patients, who presented with retained Intra-Orbital Foreign Bodies (IOrbFBs) following penetrating orbital injury at a tertiary eye hospital over a period of one year. Cases were reviewed for epidemiological features, mechanism of injury, nature of foreign body, clinical features, imaging modality, associated complications, management outcomes, and the final prognosis. Portal hypertension: An uncommon presentation of Caroli's syndrome.

Portal hypertension is not a classical presentation of Caroli's syndrome. However, some young children can present with overt signs and symptoms indicative of advanced disease state despite the improvement in imaging technology which has decreased its diagnostic age. High index of clinical suspicion can help in timely diagnosis and management.

Giant cell glioblastoma in 6-year-old kid: Report of an unusual case.

Pediatric giant cell glioblastoma, a highly malignant and lethal tumor, can only be distinguished from glioblastoma multiforme histologically. Though it is said to have a better prognosis, adequate evidence in favor is lacking. Early diagnosis with gross total resection and adjuvant chemotherapy might increase the survival period.
