Article Synopsis
  • Hypertension is a major risk factor for worsening chronic kidney disease (CKD), and using ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) can help detect previously hidden (masked) hypertension.
  • A study of 138 children with CKD showed that the prevalence of masked hypertension rose to 29.7% under the 2022 AHA ABPM guidelines, compared to 12.3% under the 2014 guidelines, indicating more undetected cases.
  • The findings suggest that ABPM is an effective method for identifying masked hypertension in pediatric CKD patients, with overall hypertension prevalence reaching 48.5%.

The beneficial effect of estrogen to promote wound healing has been known. We designed a study to determine whether preoperative stimulation of tissue with estrogen can reduce the postoperative complications associated with wound healing in patients undergoing hypospadias repair.

Background: Although checklists can improve safety in the operating room (OR), compliance with their use is variable. Use of a forcing function, a principle of human factors engineering, has not been reported earlier as a method of increasing checklist use. The authors conducted this study to determine the feasibility and effects of introducing a forcing function on OR surgical safety checklist implementation and adherence.
