Although the overall prognosis for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has improved over the past several decades, there are still survival differences that are not accurately defined by clinicopathological factors. Thus, there is an unmet clinical need to develop novel approaches to enhance prognostic accuracy for these patients. DMC and SMC type 1 are allelic disorders caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in DYM, while biallelic causative variants in RAB33B lead to SMC type 2. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To determine the role of keratin 17 (K17) as a predictive biomarker for response to chemotherapy by defining thresholds of K17 expression based on immunohistochemical tests that could be used to optimize therapeutic intervention for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
Methods: We profiled K17 expression, a hallmark of the basal molecular subtype of PDAC, by immunohistochemistry in 2 cohorts of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded PDACs (n = 305). We determined a K17 threshold of expression to optimize prognostic stratification according to the lowest Akaike information criterion and explored the potential relationship between K17 and chemoresistance by multivariate predictive analyses.
Despite their lack of a defined 3D structure, intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) of proteins play important biological roles. Many IDRs contain short linear motifs (SLiMs) that mediate protein-protein interactions (PPIs), which can be regulated by post-translational modifications like phosphorylation. 20% of pathogenic missense mutations are found in IDRs, and understanding how such mutations affect PPIs is essential for unraveling disease mechanisms.

Objective: This report describes a case of sarcoidosis that presented as a lytic bone lesion in the squamous part of the temporal bone.
Patients: A 64-year-old woman presented with right-sided aural fullness, pulsatile tinnitus, and intermittent otalgia.
Interventions: CT and MRI were performed without contrast and suggested an osseodestructive, lytic bone lesion.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the prenatal and postnatal versions of the Postpartum Depression Predictors Inventory-Revised (PDPI-R) and to examine the predictive validity of PDPI-R in Turkish women, considering two gold standards to determine postpartum depression (PPD).
Methods: This prospective longitudinal study was conducted between August 2021 and September 2023. A total of 301 pregnant women participated in the study.

Death-inducer obliterator 3 (DIDO3) and PHD finger protein 3 (PHF3) are paralogue proteins that regulate transcription elongation by docking onto phosphorylated serine-2 in the C-terminal domain (CTD) of Pol II through their SPOC domains. Here, we show that DIDO3 and PHF3 form a complex that bridges the Pol II elongation machinery with chromatin and RNA processing factors and tethers Pol II in a phase-separated microenvironment.

Utilizing an influenza-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (IAPA) model, we found that mice infected with influenza A virus followed by had 100% mortality when superinfected during the early stages of influenza but survived at later stages. While superinfected mice had dysregulated pulmonary inflammatory responses compared to controls, they had neither increased inflammation nor extensive fungal growth.
