Background: Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. Until recently, the only effective method for treating morbid obesity over the long term was bariatric surgery (BS). During pregnancy, obesity is correlated with higher risks for numerous complications, including gestational diabetes mellitus, pre-eclampsia, mortality, and large-for-gestational-age neonates.
