Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on the reaction of dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate (DMAD) with hypersilyl tetrylenes at room temperature, focusing on the compounds PhC(NBu)ESi(SiMe) where E = Ge (germanium) and Sn (tin).
  • The germylene (with germanium) resulted in the formation of alkenes, while the stannylene (with tin) also produced alkenes but exhibited different behavior.
  • Computational studies using DFT (Density Functional Theory) provided insights into the differing stereoselectivity observed in the reactions.

In this work, the insertion of CS into the Ge-Si bond of PhC(NBu)Ge-Si(SiMe) (1) has been investigated, resulting in the formation of PhC(NBu)Ge-C(S)-S-Si(SiMe) (2). Interestingly, the addition of NHC to 2 allows the release of NHC·CS with concomitant regeneration of 1. Addition of another equivalent of 1 or an analogous hypersilyl silylene, [PhC(NBu)Si-Si(SiMe)], to 2 led to the formation of compounds with a GeS (3) or a SiS (4) bond.

Microalgae, owing to their efficacy and eco-friendliness, have emerged as a promising solution for mitigating the toxicity of Bisphenol A (BPA), a hazardous environmental pollutant. This current study was focused on the degradation of BPA by Coelastrella sp. M60 at various concentrations (10-50 mg/L).

Liposomes are unique biomolecular, capable of loading both hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules and delivered into the biological system. Liposomes (L) coated with hyaluronic acid (HA) and chitosan (CS) carrier system was fabricated. Berberine (BER) and doxorubicin (DOX) were encapsulated to enhance drug proliferation and therapeutic effect in lung cancer cells.

We report three sporadic infections by from Government Medical College Kozhikode in Kerala state, South India over a period of three years. Two cases were commenced in the community in immunocompromised children beyond the newborn period, but both recovered promptly. Another was a hospital-acquired meningitis in a newborn baby who developed neurologic sequelae.

The reaction of PhC(NBu)SiSi(SiMe) (1) with MeSiCHCl afforded an unsymmetrical sp-sp disilene, 2, with concomitant elimination of MeSiCl. The analogous reaction with PhC(NBu)SiCl resulted in the oxidative addition of the C-Cl bond at the Si(II) atom (3). The reactions of 2 with sulfur and selenium led to compounds with SiE (ES (4) and Se (5)) double bonds.

Herein, we have undertaken the synthesis and investigated the reactivity of a 6-membered saturated NHC borane adduct (1). Direct electrophilic halogenation of 1 with a stoichiometric amount of I led to NHC boryl iodides, 6-SIDipp·BHI (2) and 6-SIDipp·BHI (3), which were further reacted with various nucleophiles to give novel 6-SIDipp based mono and disubstituted boranes with OTf (4 and 6) or ONO (5 and 7) functional groups. The addition of Br/HO to 1 smoothly results in a dihydroxyborenium cation (8).

Objectives: To study the efficacy and adverse effects of opioids in management of pain in children.

Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in children aged below 15 years with moderate to severe pain, and response to opioids and adverse effects were assessed at 24, 48 and 72 hours after administration.

Results: 100 children (68% males) with median (IQR) age of 6.

The reaction of IDipp with C5F5N led to functionalization of all three carbon atoms of the imidazole ring with HF2- as the counter-anion (1). Reactivity with 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine gives only C-F bond activation leaving C-H bonds intact (5b). The reaction of SIDipp with C5F5N in the presence of BF3 afforded the ring cleavage product (3).

Rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are still important problems in developing countries. Secondary prophylaxis which is the most cost-effective method in preventing recurrences of rheumatic fever is fraught with problems of drug compliance. The utility of 500 mg once weekly azithromycin (AZT), an orally effective long-acting antibiotic was evaluated against oral penicillin (phenoxy methyl penicillin 250 mg twice daily) in this study.

Background: Congenital coronary arteriovenous fistulas (CAVF), although rare, can present as significant hemodynamic lesions necessitating intervention.

Methods And Results: Six patients (two males) with congenital coronary arteriovenous fistulas (CAVF) underwent percutaneous transcatheter occlusion. The ages ranged from 4 years to 49 years (mean 20.

DnrO is a transcription factor that regulates biosynthesis of secondary metabolite daunorubicin (DNR) in Streptomyces peucetius. DNR is a DNA-intercalating drug widely used in cancer chemotherapy. Binding of DnrO close to its promoter fulfils dual functions, namely activation of dnrN and repression of dnrO.

Objective: To ascertain the effectiveness of WHO analgesic ladder in pain management in children with leukemia.

Methods: Children with leukemia who were referred to a pain and palliative care clinic attached to the Department of Pediatrics of a medical teaching hospital during a period of 6 months were included in the study.

Results: Thirty nine (39) children, who constituted 64% of children on treatment for leukemia, required referral to pain and palliative care services during the study period.

Regulatory proteins that bind to upstream un-translated region often control transcription of prokaryotic genes. Many of these proteins bend or distort their DNA binding sites, and the induced DNA curvature facilitates protein-protein or protein-DNA contacts essential for transcriptional regulation. DnrO is an essential transcription regulator of Streptomyces peucetius that activates daunorubicin biosynthetic pathway.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare cause of myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death. A 32-year-old man presented with effort angina. He had a positive treadmill exercise electrocardiogram test, and coronary angiography showed that he had dissection of all major coronary vessels.

A strain (KREDT) that formed endospores and produced the pigment prodigiosin was isolated from activated sludge. The presence of spores in cells of strain KREDT was evident upon electron microscopy examination, heat treatment and the detection of dipicolinic acid in the cells. Biochemical characteristics, and 16S rDNA sequence and DNA-DNA homology data identified strain KREDT as Serratia marcescens.

Novel Pseudomonas strains INA04, INA05, and INA06, were isolated from activated sludge. Strain INA06 was found to degrade long chain alkylphenols such as 4-n-amylphenol and 4-n-hexylphenol as the sole source of carbon, apart from co-metabolic degradation of 4-n-nonylphenol in the presence of phenol, while INA04 and INA05 could grow on phenol, but could not grow well on alkylphenols. Induction studies on strain INA06 revealed a broad substrate-specific phenol hydroxylase, for the metabolism of phenol and alkylphenols, inducible with phenol or para-substituted alkylphenol.

A novel filamentous Bacillus strain, NAF001T, was reported previously that produces endospores and spore-like resting cells; the latter outgrow by budding. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA gene sequences reported in the same paper speculated on the proposal of a novel species for this isolate. This communication describes the DNA-DNA relatedness of strain NAF001T to various members of the genus Bacillus and its whole-cell fatty acid and quinone profiles, in order to authenticate the creation of a novel species, for which the name Bacillus funiculus sp.
